yeah I finally bought the one with the pin in the head of it so you put the pin in the servo arm, put the control rod in the jaws and then sqeeze.....viola a z-bend right where you want it.

And to think I hated z-bends prior to getting this pair....now I don't use quick connects for anything but the throttle linkage now.......

Good for you. It's a great tool....but be careful with 2-56 wire. If you apply too much pressure it will cut the wire or leave it so thin that after awhile it will break under pressure from the servo.
Always check after bending your wire anyways for weak spots in the bend.

It's a kewl too though.

I bought a pair of H9 Z bend pliers and thought the same way at first, but now I hardly use them.
Some wire supplied with ARF's can be brittle and splits if you try to bend it with the pliers, so now I only use the pliers with the thinner more flexible throttle wire.

Just bend a U on the wire. Quick, easy, can be done with any pair of needle nose pliers and works as well or BETTER than a Z.

Grip and twist. Done.

FH,
Now, now; Let's not deny these guys the pleasure of their shiny new tools!

Personally I bend my "Z's" in a vise with a simple homemade tool.

I've found the Du-Bro bender the most accurate and it doesn't leave any stress marks on the wire. It also makes the first bend at 90 degrees - something my H9 and Hobbico bender can't do!

While we're on the general subject, does anyone have experience with Higley's z-bend fixture. Put it in your bench vise and bend away?

I've got a Z bend tool, but find it doesnt bend a large enough z to fit a servo. Seems the servo thickness is too much for the middle of the Z. Works good on metal throttle arms.

I had that same problem when I bought one. Got it at a LHS and we went through all he had to find one that did the bend correctly with enough clearance for the servo arm. I recently got the Great Planes pin one and appreciate the increase in the length of the arms for more leverage.

That's what I use... the small one and the larger one. The larger one works great on landing grear too.

But you can You take a normal pair of pliers... and a dremel. Grind a slot in one of the plier's jaws to fit the wire centered in the jaw's flat and 90 deg to the plier handle. Then grind another 90 to the first and centered. You make the first bend using the first slot. then shift the wire so the first bend is in the 2 slots..... 2nd bend will be in the right place every time.

cost... $2 pair of pliers and a little time.

I hate paying $13 to $25 for something I can make for $2.
