Hi Ed and Kevin,

Quick question...

I'm thinking about converting the SJ's to Lithium's.

The supplied battery is 9.6V. LiPO's are available in 7.4V and 11.1V configurations.

Are either of the LiPO configurations acceptable?

Curious minds...

Thanks!

Craig

Hi Craig,

That's pretty good timing! I just finished putting the connector on an 11.1V Duralite (LiIon) pack for evaluation. (I don't think the 7.4V pack will have the umph to complete a startup, and may not give full throttle on FW200 equipped 3000's and 2300's.)

So far everything looks like it should work out, but I'll advise of my findings.

Hi Kevin,

Any updates?

On a related note, my 2300 came with a 1200maH batterry pack. In average, how many "8-10" minutes flight can be done without recharge. (Assuming recharging with a "safe" margin, maybe only using 50% of capacity before recharge)

Thanks,
Edgar

PD: Expect first light-off in ~ 2 weeks

Edgar-

I cycled the battery that came with my 2300 three times using a Triton charger before the first start. My battery lasted 2 runs before needing a recharge. I plan on replacing the 1200maH with a 3000maH pack.

Mark,
I can confirm there are no issues with using the Duralite 11.1V on the Simjet 1200, we have run this engine/batt combo for 8 flights so far without a charge. Data says we can easily fly 10 flights without charging but the larger engines may consume more MAH per flight. The higher voltage of the LI pack is not an issue and does provide very relaible and consistant starts.
Regards,
Todd

Hi Todd,

Do you give the full 11.1V to the ECU or it goes down thru regulator? Do you know if the 1200 ECU is the same as the one for 2300?

I'm also inclined to replace the battery with one of higher capacity.
Regards,
Edgar

Edgar,

Let me know if the FOD screen works for you. If it does then let us know as it would be beneficial to all SimJet owners of turbines of this size. (2300)

Just sent you an email on that.

I received the FOD screen. It fitted perfectly! thanks,

There is no need to make holes for the fuel/propane lines as they go into the case well after the FOD screen. Starter hole was also right on.
Perfect for the 2300.
Thanks,
Edgar

That's great news, Edgar!!! I enlarged the hole in the rubber ring for the starter motor by 1/8th of an inch vs the JetCat engines to accomodate the larger starter motor housing. So, the mounting legs of the starter motor cleared the screen too??? What other SimJet engines are similar in size to the 2300???

Hi Kevin,

The 1700, 2300, Sonic 120 and 3000 all have identical exterior dimensions.

Edgar,
No regulator needed. The ECU does not have a problem with the slight voltage increase. I am not sure if there are any differences with the ecu voltage wise between the 1200 and the larger engines but I dont imagine there is. Ed and Kevin can confirm....
I have switched everything I fly over to Duralites on both the RX and ECU pack. Even switched my TX pack over, I can now fly all day without charging anything. I have more than doubled the flights I do per flying session since I switched. I have to drive 1.50 hrs to fly so when I do get to go I want to get as many flights as I can in
Todd
