Im pretty new to flying R/C but if I asked for your help and you crashed my plane I wouldnt be upset at anyone but myself and surely wouldnt expect you do help me rebuild or buy me a new plane these things happen . The only thing you have to do is land and no one can ever promise that.

I lost Great Gonzo on April 15 last year. I'm sure the IRS was somehow involved in that. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to learn that this latest incident has Homeland Security Dept. fingerprints on it.

I think if it happened for real, you would have a different response. Remember, you've spent countless hours building it, not to mention several hundred dollars to buy the equipment. Not only that, but you've daydreamed about flying for a long time while you were building it. I doubt you would walk off without a care. "Sure, just spend another 2 months and build a new trainer."

Honestly this has actually happen I purchased a Stearman kit that I wanted but knew I wasnt able to fly I took it out to the field put the controls in to a very capable pilot hands and lost it on its maiden flight we also happen to be next door neighbors we found the plane a few weeks later up in a very tall tree as a matter of fact he had to get a 50 ton crane from his work to get it down He was more upset about it than i was Life is to short to get up set about a bunch of balsa wood and some monocote i was just happy to get my engine and servos back . We still fly together every weekend with the understanding that what go up in one piece does not always come back down that way. And as far as my time you cant count time its a hobby to pass time that why Im in it .

I crashed someone else's airplane several years ago, but not quit the way you did. I was doing a range check with mine, not realizing that moments before someone else took off on my frequency! Once I realized what I did, I fessed up and paid the man 100% for his airplane. God, I felt horrible and will never forget it. Now when I go out to the field, I pay very close attention to the frequency board! I know how you feel. I think I'd offer this guy 50% or offer to repair his plane. Have done quit a few crash repairs on mine (and others) planes. Not that difficult if you know what your doing. If he declines, then let it go. Chock it up to experience like I did and move on.

As far as Tork25's comments, ignore them.

Chris.

Cafeenman,
Do you want to be a gentleman about it, fix it.
Do you want to be fair about it, go 50/50.
Do you want to be "smart" about it, don`t do anything.

It is up to you, but what you do in this cases, determines what you are.
If you ask me; You can never go wrong with being a gentleman.

There is only one thing that makes you feel worse than wrecking a plane, that is being at the controls when someone elses goes in. I have gotten in the habit of checking contols before every takeoff, regardless of how many. No, I havn't worked on the plane in the pits, but this routine is such a habit now that in the event I do make some kind of adjustment in the pits I will check it out automatically. Joe

This may be time to call on Judge Judy.

But if you missed ailerons being reversed upon your checkout of his plane and then you flew it??? Just fix it for him since it may be safer than letting him fix it himself.

going back to minding my own business

Caffen I understand your situation. I am a poor pilot. I admit it. I always ask someone to preflight and do a checkflight for me on a new or repair job. I always understand that if it goes in it is no ones fault (exept mine for doing a poor job of building). I always pick someone who has a lot of experience. If the guy I chose augers it in I stood NO chance of flying it. I would never blame him. I had the aileron thing happen to me. me and the pilot both checked it out and was ready to taxie out. Another modeler was watching. He noticed our boo-boo. He yelled at us to stop. We all checked it out and fixed the ailerons. We then had an uneventful first flight. So I have been where you were.

I would suggest that maybe the 2 of you could fix it together. If you invite him to your shop and fix it. Maybe you can teach him what it takes to do it right. I've seen pictures of your shop posted here. I think your freind (?) would like it and maybe you can turn him around. I wish you well. I hope you come to grips with this delemma. I fell you have a lot to give this fella. Who knows after a few cups of java you may find you have a new freind. Freinds are a precious comodity these days. Again I wish you well.

My thoughts are just offer to help him repair it and he buys the materials. You where both at fault so 50/50 is a good call. I've always been taught to check the surfaces before take off not just on arrival to field. There is always a chance that something has happened since taxiing to the runway. If something happens after take off then it does but you can honestly say you did everything you could to prevent there being a mishap. Keep your chin up and move on.
