I (normal male gearhead) got into r/c planes about 4 months ago. As I was new, and had very little help (didn't even know AMA existed until a couple weeks ago.... membership is on the way, as well as membership to local flight club) So far I have spent more money than I can count, and have built 12 planes so far. I have 3 radios, 4 motors, and a whole closet full of tools and glue and 15 types of tape. My fiance was at first very skeptical of the whole affair, and thought I was basically nuts. However, when I built her a bungee launch glider out of 4mm coroplast, and put a controller in her hands, she was hooked. I now get no objections to my airplane projects. She is helping to support my hobby financially, and she even insisted that we register at the local hobby shop for wedding gifts. I would have to consider myself very lucky at this point. I can't imagine anyone else putting up with a living room full of coroplast and balsa shavings, that you can't safely walk through. We live in a small apartment, and I don't have a good work area yet. it is hard to clear out 32 square feet of floor space to spread out the coroplast (oh yeah forgot to mention that I have 10 sheets of it stored under the twin beds upstairs. they have to go crosswise, to fit under. We plan next year to have a house, so I can get my airplane hanger underway (the garage). If all goes well, I will get her AMA certified and flying at the field as well. However, she doesn't like to build them like I do. She just likes to fly them. I almost look forward to a good crash, so I can have more time working on planes. Don't know what to do with myself if I am not bulding a new plane... and I can't put the electronics into a new plane until I destroy the current one.
