Hi

After many years of F3F, on both sides of the Atlantic, I am being drawn to power pylon. A friend of mine is having a ball with Q500 in Sydney so I am in search of similar thrills around San Fran or Sacremento.

All info will be much appreciated

Unfortunately you will not find any 0.40 displacement AMA sponcered racing(424,428 or 422) in central California. There are a few of us who practice locally and then make the weekend trip to Loa Angeles, Medford etc. for races. There are a couple who fly at Moffett Field weekends and the Livermore field has monthly APRA club racing. If you want to come out to Moffett some weekend PM or e-mail me.

Hey Tom,

Good to hear form you on the boards. I finally have decided to hate Jacob. The little fart has given me the bug again to get back in to Q-500. I havent flown a q-500 race since 1991 when I was 15. When he calls or comes over, all he talks about is Q-500 racing and how much fun he is having. I cant let him have fun all by himself. I am picking up his beater so I can go thrash it around and learn how to fly again!!!!

I have a deal going on now for a NemQ. I also am picking up all the stuff I sold Jacob . I have to buy it all back. . I am going to order another Nem Q probably this month. Yes, I am getting back. My women told me that if I am going to do it, dont half ass it. I told her I wont!!!!!

So this year I will be running the T-34 races and competing in all the Basin Races most likely. I have put the warbirds on hold till next year. Anyways, we will have to get together. Since you, Jacob and I are all in San jose, we should all drive down together.

Talk to you later

Kevin

Kevin,

Excellent!!!! Great to see AMA racing interest in central Calif starting to ramp up. Caravaning to the Basin sounds like a plan. Have you driven the 5 to L.A. lately? It's a much more scenic drive now. NOT. Barf! Damm, I knew I should of picked up that spare Nelson liner Jacob had last week.

Keep in touch.

IF (and that's a BIG IF) I could arrange a Q-500 race at the Buttonwillow field (near Bakersfield), how many of you guys would attend? What month would be best?

Trent,
That is a major task! If there was a contest I would definetly show up, it is less of a drive than LA, or Phoenix

I would estimate probably 15 people would show up, maybe more. Not sure on a month though.

I know - my club was home to Glen Spickler. We invented Q-500!

Count me in as long as it doesn't interfer with my other racing. August-September are good months. Maybe attract some Qm-40 also to make the event larger. More interest, the larger turnout.

I would think Bakersfield would get a similar turnout as the Basin would. Schedule is very important relative what is going on at the Basin and Whittier. Other than poles up practice, what is going at Whittier? Does a schedule exist?

I think you could count on 4 or 5 guys from Castaic.

Hey Trent! Hope all is well in my old hometown....
I'm not sure you could expect the same turnout as the Basin races. From talking to Barry Leavengood, there seem to be several Basin race regulars that won't even travel to the Whittier races, so I doubt they'll go up to Buttonwillow. I would think you could get about 10 people to travel for a 424 level race, and if you had 428 and Q40, you could probably expect another 10 to 15 between the two, which would add close to 20 additional entries total. If the race proved successful, you can expect more entries in the future. Even though I'm back in AZ, I'd do everything I could to make a race in Bakersfield.
Take care,

Dittos, If you have 428 and reasonable separation with the Basin, the Narrows and Speedworld.

That would seem to work Trent. Are you thinking just 424 or both Quickee classes? Oh man its been years how is highway 58 over the Tehachapi pass?
