Before you decide make sure you look at your Albatros Aces book, it has a lot of nice schemes. I too would stay with the earlier models, no lozenge fabric, and the earlier german crosses. No matter what you go with, it will look great.

    Todd,

I know this is off topic but since we are on WWI planes, what the heck.... Are you aware of the PC game Red Baron 3D released in 1995? It is the WWI air combat simulation that has gone through major after market patches by devoted fans over next 10 years plus. You can go on line and combat with fellow flyers. It is SO realistic that at times I can smell the smokes coming from my guns or duck from flying bullets! That's true, no kidding here... The picture you depicted is just like a scene out from the game !!! DP

    Hello,

You can also find color schemes for any type of aircraft in this game. Here is one of the links for this great product...

    Hello,

I thought I post some pictures of my built. Last night, I discovered a major error in my construction job. I glued one bulkhead inverted! After trying to use debonder to no avail, I cut the top and bottom parts and reglue them. I also added a balsa stock to strengthen the joint. For new builders, make sure the you get these right as the parts are so symetrical that you can easily made a mistake like me. I don't have Manfred to help me like Todd, so my Hurricane pilot has to do. I then rewarded him with a cheapo American beer !

    Hello,

In case you are wondering about my DIII progress, it is on hold for a "short time" at the moment. My building table is serving as the repair station for my crashed TM (see my posts in Crash Forum). Hopefully, the built will continue in couple weeks. DP

Good to see you building your DIII. I almost fell prey to that same error, just before I put glue to it I had to stop and get some sleep. The next evening I rechecked everything before glueing and found the inverted former. Good advice to anyone building this plane. I did the red and blue scheme on mine, looks great at the field.

Dai Phan, I know your using electric power, but make sure you have plenty of Power. I used to have a Magnum .91 four stroke in mine. I had to run it rich to keep it cool, but it would swing a 14X6 wood zinger at 8500 RPM. It was weak, and I didn't like it. Now I have a YS 1.10 in the plane, which will pull a 15X6 over 10000 RPM, and the plane is much easier to fly. I can cruise around at half throttle, and give it a bit more when I need it in the turns. Mine is a bit heavy with the speaker system, but with a full cockpit and scale details yours might not be too light either.

Thats alot of power Todd, I am surprised. Mine flies great with a .91 and I was thinking of swapping a OS70 out so that I can put the .91 in my Goldburg Ultimate. There was a funAero DIII at the Dayton DawnPatrol this weekend, a very good looking and flying plane.

I used the heavier sheeting, and quite a bit of paint. Add my speaker system and mine is heavy. Then I had to add even more lead in the nose than most I'm sure. It's also hard to keep the engine cool on hot summer days, so you have to run it quite a bit rich. All these things combined caused me to want more power. Now I have plenty. Just the way I like it. I know there is no way mine would fly worth a dang with an OS 70 in it.

I think that if I could, I would have built mine like yours. It would be worth the bigger engine for such great scale looks. All in all I am pretty happy with mine, I dont fly it very often, at least once a month, but it will always be a "ready to fly" plane in my hanger. I have a Fokker DVIII, SE5a, Fokker DVII, Fokker Eindecker and a Sopwith Pup also (picked up the kit last weekend at Dayton) , no shortage of WWI planes there.

A picture of the fleet this spring. The DVIII and the Eindecker need repairs. That is for this winter though.
