    Hello Albatross Lovers....

Ok, last night I cleared the table and put back the parts for my built this 3 day weekend. Here is how I am gonna to do this. Saturday will be framing/sheeting fulselage, Sunday will be for upper and Monday will be for lower wing. I will start at 8:00 till say 6-7ish. I hope that at least the frame up will be completed. I have already finished the vertical and horizontal stab. Just being curious for the responses of those who built this plane: can I achieve this goal or it is a pipe dream? Waitting to hear from ya... DP

I thought that it was a pretty fast build. I did the fuse in about 8-9 hours. That was over a week or so though, couple hours a day.

    Prop Nut,

Wow!!! You did that in about 9 hours? I will let you know how long it will take mine. I agree on calling the original thread starter to show his work too.... I am curious to see how far JHarkin has gone. DP

IT might have been more than 9 hours, it was last winter. I am pretty sure that it didnt take more than a week and I only let myself work on building a couple of hours a day. From what I remember though it was pretty straight forward. I did have some complaints that the pictures in the instructions didnt match what they were telling me to do (I think the pictures might have been out of thier DII building guide). I thought that the sheeting was the hardest part, as it always is for me. I own a cabinet shop, putting together the structure of most of these kits really isnt all that hard after doing cabinets for 14 years. Flipstart and Todd could probably give you a better estimate than I, I have a tendency to hurry through building to get to flying so I am not the greatest "Scale" builder out there.

    Prop Nut,

Did you use the supplied sheeting? Any pitfalls that I should be aware of regarding building the body? DP

I really cant remember much, I think I posted those that annoyed me way back in this thread someplace. I actually didnt use the sheeting provided, it wasnt that good, so I bought some from the LHS and used that instead.

    Hi Prop Nut,
Nice job on your Albatros!!! I am thinking about getting one and I have a couple of questions. Maybe you can help Not sure I want to get the D.II or the D.III. Here is why...

The D.II has flying wires and the D.III does not? At least from the pictures I have seen at FunAero. Do you know if the wires functional on the D.II? It also looks like they need to be hooked up and take down for each flying session, which is why I don't like them.

It looks like they are both they are pretty close to the same size except for the wing span. D.II is 60" and the D.III shows 65". The D.II recommends a .80 4C and the D.III recommends a .91 4C. I have a Saito .80 and a YS 1.10, which the 1.10 is the same size case as the .91. I was wondering how the D.III would fly with the Saito .80? Compared to the .91, the .91 is better but I mean the D.II and the D.III with the .80? I like both kits but I am more interested in the D.III because I am not crazy about the flying wires.

    Thanks for your help....
    Bill

    Hi Bill,

Todd would probably have more scale info on the Albatros than I would, if he wants to chime in on this. Niether the DII nor the DIII use flying wires, these are fun scale so they are not needed. I used elastic string on mine to simulate wires. My plane is transported and stored with the wings on so I dont have to worry about it. But it would only take a few extra minutes at the flying field to put on the wires if done right. I would recomend the elastic string and simple hooks.

Wow, that was quick. Thanks for the fast response. What do you think about the Saito 80 on the D.III?

Mine flies very well with a .91 Magnum, I wouldnt think that you would have any troubles. Others have had better luck with a 1.20 on thiers, read back over the last few pages and see what Hot Rod Todd has had to say. I built mine as light as I could and like I said, it flies great with the .91 (I have been told that I fly it way to fast for scale, lol). A great kit that the .80 would be perfect for would be the Dynaflite SE5a, I fly mine with a 1.20 (because that is all I had sitting around) but a OS .70 would fly it just perfect. I am taking the SE5a out today (Weather permitting).
