Congrats Dai, I knew that thing did not look like a hanger queen! When I first flew mine it felt heavy, but that is just due to the drag. It actually floats in for nice landings every time. Biggest problem is that it takes up so much room in my truck making it not the first choice when I go to the field. I only had it out a couple of times this year.

    Simply outstanding Dai Phan,
What a beautiful airplane, and I am very happy to learn that it flies with authority.
I hope you allow yourself to feel proud of your achievement, not only did you make your model be very special you allowed us to watch this plane come to life with your excellent documentation here on RCU.
While your buddies in N.M. will surely miss you, the boys in S.C. are gaining a fine modeler to add to their ranks.

What a wonderful final triumph!!! You did a truly outstanding job on your Albatros. Best of luck for future flights and future builds -- and of course your move to SC.

I just read through the entire thread again.
Dai Phan was the last one to post about his build, but there were several others that carried the torch before D.P. arrived.
Each of you made great contributions and gave so much helpful support to each other along the way.
Thank you all for this excellent thread.

    Hi all,

Thank you so so so so much for the great compliments! I am very honored to announce that after giving up the Alan Spievak Pfalz DIII built from plan (too hard for me), Fokker Ace will take over and frame the kit for me. I will then take it over and get it detailed and flown like the Albatros. (Thank you Fokker Ace !). I will update the link shortly. Regarding the Albatros, the heaviness of the tail actually helped me because the two Lipos added the needed weight to the A/C. The final flying weight is 13 lbs and only needed 1/4 throttle to fly. Let's see other FA Albatrosses .... DP

    Hellow all

I have had this kit for about 4 1/2 years now, sitting in the closet, I just got it out the other day and was going through the manual the ink/powder started to smeer on a few pages, not good. I am looking forward to building this kit. Seeing all the ones that have been built by you all, I am excited about geting it together.
I have a Dr1 patterned off of Ernest Udet's Dr1 but I dont want to pay so much for the 5 color pattern (Arizona Model 350.00$+). that is used on the Albatros DIII My question is does any one have or know of another DIII that Ernest Udet had used with a differnt pattern (other than the 5 color pattern)

    Thanks
    Jim

Udet's Dr. I had factory olive streaking over linen on much of the plane.
Painted parts were the top wing [black and white striping], his 'LO', and the tailplanes.
look at Dr.I Aces by Osprey

the only lozenge d Dr.I's were the two in 'The Blue Max'

    Let me restate:
I have a FUNAERO Albatros DIII Kit now for about 4 1/2 years in a closet. I have just taken it out of the closet.

I have a Dr1 that is of Ernest Udet (olive green, brushed at a 45 deg with the blake and white strip wing and rear part of the fus.

I wish to pattern the Albatros DIII after Ernest Udet's Albatros. But NOT THE ONE WITH the 5 color pattern. Did he have another pattern for his Albatros?

    Thanks again

Dude, what the heck are you smokin'? Hopefully it's just the dope fumes(nitrate or butyrate, not the illegal variety)

yes, he flew an Albatros that was silver, and one that was gold...one of the Osprey Aircraft of the Aces series, Albatros v.2 I think.
