Here's a shot of the radiator I made. It's made out of styrene sheet, balsa and aluminum tape.

    Hello,

I really like your engine exhaust. Did you carve out of balsa? DP

I received the leather for the cockpit coaming today. I glued it to 1/4" neoprene coaming and folded an edge on the outside. Then I stitched the edge together. I glued it on the model with canopy glue and a little CA to hold the edges down. I'm pleased with the result-)

I took the DIII to the field today to do a range check, check the power system and do some taxi runs. But the winds were 90 degrees to the runway and too gusty for my taste. But I did get the power sytem checked out. It spins the 16x10 prop at 6500 RPM for 1167 Watts. A bit much for a 10 lb biplane so I'll probably go for an 8 pitch prop.

I had the maiden flight of my Albators today. The model flys terrific. I switched to a 16x8 prop which lowered the amp draw to about 35 with a max RPM of 6400. Total watts are about 750. The model took off and needed a few clicks of aileron trim. No elevator trim was required. The model flew well at half throttle. Full throttle didn't add a whole lot of speed but helped for loops. Here is the maiden flight video:

Here are a couple more videos. Is anyone else flying their Albatros still? I'm totally loving this model. It is a blast to fly.

On mine I just used fuel tubing, then painted it to look like leather. I also carved the exhaust megaphone out of balsa.

Hot Rod Tod, The picture you posted recently is, I believe, cropped from a photo of Uffz Paul Beaumer seated in his colorful "Edelweiss" Albatross D V. Do you have a copy of the full frame photograph? ................John

I think that is HR in his early career days. My Albatross is in the color scheme you mentioned. DP
