    Status: offline     		I just ordered mine the other day and have since been pondering the engine I will use. In speaking with the owner of Funaero he mentioned that while any of the 90 4 strokes would be good, he was sure that the OS 91 was a good fit being that they made a muffler adapter to keep the exhaust in the cowl. In looking around however, I have also seen that many people offer at least some way of doing this so I am a bit unclear as to what drives people to get the different engines... I would first be very interested to hear why some chose the Saito 91 or 100 and extremely interested in hearing from anyone that might have used a YS 91 (fit with supercharge airbox) or the OS 91P (with internal fuel pump)... In the end I realize many will be overpowered but I have needed some reserve power from time to time to get out of trouble and if nothing else, it is a comfort to have... I mostly want reliability to keep it in the air but with all the engines out there, certainly could use some words of wisdom from those of you with experience who know...

    Status: offline     		I chose the Saito 91-Saito because of quality-figured any company that only built 4 strokes has to be on the cutting edge to survive-talked to Mike at Funaero and 91 is more than enough power, scale flying at 1/2 throttle, takeoff at 2/3 throttle. Built a in cowl straight pipe for muffler, really has a neat sound and not that much louder, not that stopped up tone that you get with muffler-cut stock nipple in half, brazed 90 degree copper fitting to nipple, and brass pipe out bottom of cowl.

    Would not be too hard to just run brass pipe up and out by mock engine just like the original, but wanted to keep fuel and oil off plane. You will enjoy building the kit - it is top notch. Just a few little glitches between drawings and instructions but parts fit is great. Flipstart

    Status: offline     		Nice job on your Alby. I've got my fuse basically done. Using an OS 65 LA with a Pitts muffler. Got a big hole in the side of the cowl for the air to go in, and a bigger one in the bottom for it to go out, hopefully.

    Nice kit. Very high quality wood and laser cutting.

    Status: offline     		Any thoughts out there of converting the DIII to a W4 Seaplane? Same airframe as the DIII, but on floats, I believe I read in the Datafile...
    Also, someone further back in the thread was looking for a 1/4 scale D-Va? You can get a full kit (Pepino plans) for $260 from Kit Cutters [ http://www.kitcutters.com/Pep/PepD5AAlbatross.htm ], or a short kit (as I recall) from Bob Holman at www.bhplans.com.

    Status: offline     		I believe the Float plane version has the DII wing, lacking the DIII's sesquiplane construction (not that many would know the difference). If you knew you were making it from the start, you could order the DII kit instead of the DIII. I have not started on my Albatros yet, but I'm thinking a 14X6 prop will work fine with a .91 four stroke. Wood of course for that somewhat scale look.

    I own a small cabinet shop, we do alot of clear coating on Baltic and chineese birch. Your faux wood paint job is very very near perfect to the thin birch veneers we use. Wow. I am impressed. Ok, my two cents worth, gotta go order that kit now. Sheesh, more money not going to my daughters college fund. Maybe I will get lucky and she will drop out of school. Just think of all the RC stuff I can spend her college fund on, Muahaha!

    Unfortunately my Albatros is still not done... "Life got in the way" as they would say and I had to put the project aside for a year. Now I've got the time to finish it though, and seeing that others have built and flown theirs in the meantime I've got some work to do!!! Great looking planes guys.
