    Hello,

I plan to build it as the DVa version with the pilot head rest and round tail. I don't have to deal with making wood grain with silver body for this particular bird. There are tons of color scheme out there.... By the way, in case you have not seen this, check out my almost finished scale Tiger Moth in 1/5 scale...

By the way, the thing the Red Dragon plane is famous for is that Hipple of Jasta 5 landed it with only half a wing, and survived!

    Hello,

I also have a scheme that I really like... The one with red arrow that Proctor uses on their Dva. I am very very close to ordering it. By the way, it that kit easy to put together? Dai Phan

    Prop nut,

I saw your picture after I posted mine. I thought the arrow was red, not black as in your picture? Dai Phan

I didnt know that Von Hipple had flown the one with the Red Dragon. I did know that he had flown this one and had called it a dragon in his letters. I havent done very much in the way of research though. This aircraft definatly was flown by H.J. Von Hipple Jasta 5. I was going on snatches of memory when I replied to your post, I apologize for the misunderstanding.

In many cases the historians argue about something being black, or red. That might be why it is pictured both ways. I believe that the plane with the black arrow as shown above is Von Hipples later plane, a DVa, the red dragon plane was a DV. Lucky for him, since the DVa aileron controls come up through the lower wing. If you loose a lower wing on a DVa, you don't land it in one piece. I like the paint scheme, but it is too popular. I'd rather choose something less often seen. As Dai stated, there are tons of nice schemes available. I thought the Funaero kit was not too difficult. Mine went together with little trouble.

    Hello,

I did some research on Aeromaster decals (for plastic model) for the plane but I did not see anything spectacular other than the gray body with red dragon. I took first place at the local IMPS ( Iowa Chapter) in 1997 with my 1/48 Albatross DVa when I did the wood body with Turkey Star and half moon. If you guys see any spectacular schemes on the DIII or V, could you post it here? I agree with Todd that the arrow scheme is too popular. BTW, is it worth wide to buy the accesory pack for another 45 bucks? I know that I won't use the pilot in their package. I just HATE pilot bust in a scale airplane !!! Dai Phan

This is about the best site on the web to see paint schemes and scale details. Check it out.

I doubt they will have the accessory kit. Williams Brothers is out of business. The wheels, machine guns, or pilots are no longer available.

I have the Proctor DVa kit but I haven't started it yet. A friend built one and said it's like building the real one. Lots of work but it goes along pretty smoothly. I also have a Laser V 300 for power which is the right engine to use. You don't have to try to find an Enya 240 and the Laser fits in the front with the rocker covers in place. I would like to do the Von Hipple Dragon scheme myself and conver the Proctor kit to a DV. Should be pretty easy to do to make the conversions.

Actually the Williams bros. were 1/6 scale, and fit very well. I don't know of anyone else who makes 1/6 scale guns. You may have to use the info at the Cookup site and build some out of wood or plastic. Here's a place with 1/5 scale and larger, but they are pricey.
