Hi,

I was wondering what prop and fuel people are using with their YS 140DZ. First of all this is the best YS engine i have ever owned - The idle and throttle response is outstanding and the needle setting is easier than a an OS 46FX if this is possible.

My model weighs in at 10.5 lbs and i have found the APC 16 x 12 on 25% nitro excellent. I have tried the 16.5 x 12 and the 16.5 x 12 W but they tended to labour a bit on the large P-03 maneuvers due to the weight of the model.

Has anyone out there any comments ?

You hit the nail on the head, 16x12. It also depends on the altitude a lot, but for a 10.5 lb plane go with a light prop that will give you good performance, with a 9.5lb plane you would get away with some of the higher loaded props.

I found that the 16-12 was way too fast even on a 10.5lb bird. The wide blades are great....also you will be tipping the noise scale with the 16-12 And your getting some really high RPMs.....from what I have experienced.....Now this was YS Plug, and Cool Power 30% Heli fuel. The 16.5-12W turns up at 8500 rpm and pulls a ton.... I'm at 6000ft but have used this same prop at 2000ft Las Vegas and it works great....I think if I was running at Sea level I would be trying the APC 17-12 up here that prop is a touch to much prop but at sea Level its probably great.

Now I ran the 17-12 on the OS EFI last season but the motor had to have Mag #1,or some 25% Power Master, in it to turn that much prop. The DZ turning this 17-12 Prop at 8000 to 8100 on the ground....The OS running the 25% nitro and the same APC 17-12 Prop turnned 7700 on the ground and in the air the EFI registered a big 8250.

Now I'm using 5% more nitro in the DZ but it had more power and especially more power in the middle of the throttle range.

I would look to the 16.5-12W prop with the 30% heli fuel. It is an amazing combo. The absolute best I have ever seen or run.

From what I hear this is the setup Somenzini is now running. And I know Chip is running this same setup. I'm testing some of the newer APC props like a 17-10 and also the Bolly props such to find a comparable setup but right now the\is is the best overall I have seen or felt. Windy-calm-hot-cool doesn't matter performance is solid the entire time.

Hi Troy

What rpms are you getting on the 16x12? I find that I can get a very slow flight speed but the Vector is a very draggy plane, the Evolis will probably require a different prop to slow it down a bit. I have not tried the 16.5x12W as yet since the 16x12 is making me happy at the moment.

What kind of fuel consumption are you getting without the venturi restrictor? No one else here is running one so just looking for some comparisons. Love the motor though, like you say it is extremely solid, like the Energizer Bunny, just keeps going and going and going......

I think I read somewhere that without the restrictor, its about 2-2.5oz per min.

That is what they say but that is not what I get, without the restrictor I am getting about 1.6 oz/min, moderately using the throttle (FAI sequence)

The 2-2.5 oz would be at full throttle.

That would not be surprising. I try to stay at full throttle for the entire flight though She screams when she is wound out

I have found that the Dz's l like the 16.5x12w in Michigan. I am running 25%powermaster without the restrictor and am getting 8700 rpms. I do keep it down in the 8400 rpm range though. I get 12 min on a 20 oz tank of fuel.

That sounds about right, 13 min on 20 oz for me, 25% nitro, 16x12@8800 3800' asl

9.7 lbs, weighed in at 4395g in Ireland, the DZ gives it absolutely ballistic power

My focus weighs in at 10 pounds and 4 oz. The focus is a more constant speed plane. It doesnt go ballistic but it pull the plane forever at a nice speed.
