I think he is not getting that you are inserting a 1/64" strip of plywood strip around the perimeter of the tail in a slot made with your razor saw blade.
Or maybe I've got it wrong because that's what I do.

Guys:
I believe PER is asking how you lay out the 1/64 ply edging so it fits correctly in the slot. As for me I just draw around the tail and cut it with scissors.

Dave,
Where did you get your Dereml bit from? I can't get them here in Australia and have been looking for one for years since I stripped my last one out!
Cheers,
Dave

I got this one from my Father-In-Law, but any dealer of decent tools should be able to get one. I wish I had better info about the exact part number, but I don't.

I don't know if this helps. I found this set at Home Depot in Austin, Texas. It is called an "Accessory ProPak" by Gyros guard. The company name is Gyros Precision Tools, Inc. www.gyrostools.com The "Reorder Number"
is #61-11817. They have all kinds of saw blades and other stuff for Dremels and have online ordering. A little pricy, but worth it.

Another advantage of imbedding the 1/64" ply into the edge is that it allows you to really sharpen them. Most of the composites have a more rounded shape to them, but I try to bring them to a pretty sharp edge. I will try to get a picture later.

I built a tail last night, and tried something a little different. I first tried to put down a coat of rattle can primer on the wax paper before laying up the glass, but that didn't work so well. As the primer dried, it shrunk or something and the wax paper wrinkled up in a few areas.

I then cut and waxed up some mylar slightly larger than the size of the tail and put a coat of primer on the Mylar and let dry.

I then layed up my glass and hinges as described earlier and put the sandwich in the vacumm bag.

I pulled the tail out of the bag this morning, and it turned out absolutely perfect. I have never been able to get such a smooth surface with glass, and the weave is filled in perfectly ready for paint.

I weighed the tail before glassing and priming and it came in at 1.3 oz. After glassing and priming it came out of the bag at 1.7 oz. Should be able to keep it dang close to 2 oz after adding the torque rods.

Heres a couple of pictures. They don't show how smooth this turned out, but you can see a little glare
