GMS is great engine. I have the 47 from Lee at gmsengines.com. Can't beat em for the price and power. THey have a great muffler. The gms 47's from Tower don't come with the better muffler.

ya but i think we are still going to buy the towers since they are cheaper and tower has all the parts. What props should we get for low speed high torque and hovering?

i think it was because it can;t run with too long of fuel lines and the spa3d from my expirence requires long fuel lines.

I'm running an APC 11x5 on a TT gp.42 with pretty good results on the spa3dt. The pqhor has an 11x6 top flite prop on it that performs pretty well with the OS 46LA motor. You'll just have to try a few different ones till you find something that fits your flying style.

1- some say the muffler interferes with the wing
2- they dont like long fuel lines

The GMS with tower muffler have the same wing interrence and fuel line problems.
you can put spacers under the engine and make sure the tank is really close to the engine, or you can mount the engine 90 degreed and place the fuel tank opposite the engine on the mount (this is my prefrence). The Tower .46 is a monster. An 11x4 APC is not enough for it. A 12.5x3.75 works well and I am going to try both 11x5 and 12x4 for comparison. I run the Tower with a Macs header and mousse can pipe. It is real sensitive to tuning, so you better know how to work the low speed needle. When it runs well, it's hard to beat. It will hover a 5lb spad at less than 1/2 throtle with an APC 12.5x3.75

Get the TT 46 engine. I don't have a whole lot of experience with the tower motor but the one I have is a piece of junk. I just got into flying about a year ago and bought a tt 46 and it has ran perfect. Between me and my friends that I have gotten into this hobby we have 5 tt 46's and they all have been perfect. The only reason I bought the Tower motor was that Tower Hobbies was out of the TT's. I have not been able to get it to run right. It will go lean when it is pointed up and I have the tank setting right behind the motor. Besides that it does not have near the power as the tt 46 with a tower muffler,or at least mine doesn't. And if you are building a SPA3D you need a reliable engine becaus they don't glide well at all. I have read some people have had good luck with them but I have also read others having the same problems as me. Like I said I don't have near the experience as most of the guys on this forum so you can take it for what it's worth but don't get the tower motr.

Oh I forgot on my TT46 I usually run an APC 12x4 but have also run the 12.25x3.75 with good results it just costs more when you break them.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the heads up on the Tower engine. I was considering it since Tower gives free shipping on parts and the low level flying of a Spa3d sounds like taking earth samples will be a regular occurance. I have a Thunder Tiger .46 Pro on my trainer and it is a terrific engine. I guess I will have to purchase a second one for my Spa3d!

I guess I could also consider the GMS. Does anyone know if Tower stocks parts for the GMS engines?
