Status: offline 		actually FOD is foreign object debris. (any junk or objects on the ground where the plane operates)

FOD is what causes the damage.

History Channel last night had a special on runways and FOD. The runway inspectors have a cool job of driving at 110 mph between jets scoping out any material that might be on the runway. I saw one inspector at Dallas with a Corvette screaming past the MD80 I was on. They also do a lot of critter control (rabbits, dogs, geese etc.) that can be known to be feathered or furry FOD.

Status: offline 		I was taught both terms in the sense that FOD causes FOD. Either way we dont want either one of them around full scale aircraft of any kind.

Status: offline 		We use the term FOD in both ways. Foreign object debris is before it can damage the aircraft and foreign object damage is after the damage is done.

Status: offline 		Its used quite a few ways. My first jet flight ever ended with the left engine fod. Cost us a quarter of a million bucks. Not fun. Don't matter what you call the crap going in, it is expensive.
