Looks like you are comparing the bare weight of the 100 with the all up weight of the 120. The Horizon web site shows 19.4 for the 100, which I know is heavier than the .91. I have weighed both of my 91s and they weigh 20.5 ounces with muffler. This is compared to the Horizon weight of 18.3 ounces, so figure 2-2.5 ounces for the muffler. If you add 2.5 to the listed 19.4 you get about 22 ounces.

They list the 120 as 820 grams which is 28.9 ounces. Figure 2.5-3 ounces for the larger muffler-I'd say 3 ounces, and you have 31.9 or approx 32 ounces. So you are looking at a 10 ounce difference. You might also figure the prop weight because a 120 will turn a bigger, and heavier, prop than the 100. I think with the 120 you could figure about 3/4 lb difference, ready to fly.

The 5-cell pack is probably NiCds. A 1650 mil NiMH would be lighter.

    Pat,
just FYI, I use DuBro remote glows on all my cowled planes, specially the one with inverted engine applications. They work great, and the weight is minimal-bout 1 1/2 ounces. They make one especially for a 4 banger, it's plug contact is angled, works slick and well worth the $11.00.
I am using the same engine combination as you, and darn near the same servo set up. My Saito was on another plane that I sold that weighed about 10 1/2 lbs., and even in Colorado it performed well. When I finish the Mayhem and maiden it, I will start out with a 15x6 to see how things go and may go to a 16x6. (I am running a 15x6 on my saito 100 and it handles it fine)
By the way, where did you mount the battery in the fuselage to get it to balance out, I am using a 6v 5cell pack myself so it would be helpful to know. If you can post pictures that would be great.

Also nice to hear how well SIG treated you, customer service goes a long way with a company.

I'm using the ca hinges. Robarts are nice, but they're a pain to install.

    TA-DA!

Construction complete down to the decals.

All that remains is to balance CG and see how this
    engine runs head down.

    Pictures:
    Finished airplane
    Install of OS 1.2 Surpass
Cheap, fast solution to wheel pants seams - (trim strip).
Through the hull item locations located not to disturb plywood
    remote glow head
    fueler port
    charge port
    off on switch

Cowling, I did have to reinforce a crack that developed from numerous install/uninstalls. It look as though it will provide enough cooling airflow.

Sorry, I'm not able weigh the airplane.

Weather looks OK for maiden flight on Saturday.

    Robin

GREAT pics! Can't wait to hear flight report. I'm curious to hear how it balanced, too. The stripes on the wheel pants is a great idea. Any ideas on how to protect a plastic spinner from an electric starter?

Balanced 5.375" from leading edge with 5 cell 1400 MA nicads agains the bottom of servo. - close enough for me.

Re the plastic spinner - I have had good luck by really pressing HARD aginst the spinner before switching it on. I can start smalller engines - .46 or so with no problem. This size engine might be different.

    Owild1;
Did you have a correction paper in you box for the right firewall lines? We all have the first run plane and mine came with an update in the box. Do you have unlimited verticle with the 100? And do you have a final weight?

    Steve

    Report:

    Mayhem ARF
OS 1.2 Surpass with 16x6 wood Zinger prop
    Hitec 645 metal gear servos - 5cell 1400mah nicad
Built as per manual + bottom of wing joint fiberglassed.
    Weight 8#s,3oz.

Only got one flight in, the wind was starting to come
up as I got to the field. Very little trim was needed. I
had the throws set at the book called for then backed
them off about 1/4". Exponential set at -75%. It
seemed to track well and on low rates was still very
    responsive.

I think it was running a little rich. Unlimited vertical, but not
the jack-rabbit I was expecting. I'm certain performance will increase with a twist of the needle valve.

Landing was fine. All and all a good first flight.

Wind came up, and I quit while I was ahead. Wind was gusting to 20mph plus in less than an hour.

    Robin,
Thanks for the report, even though there are a bunch of question we could ask, it appears as though you had a short sweet maiden and did not want to press the envelope with any careless flying of a new plane, specially in windy conditions. Very happy to hear the initial reports on how straight it tracks.

    Owild1,
Appears as though you were fortunate with your maiden. My question would be the same one Steve asked, did you get the update, as the first batch of Mayhems had the wrong engine mount lines marked on the firewall? Glad you got it down in one piece, bet it was a handful.

    Dhammer,

If you have any questions, fire away. If I can answer, I'll be happy.
This airplane flies just like the other 3-d airplanes I have: a "Simply Magic" with a Thunder Tiger .46Pro, a "Pizazz" with an OS .71 Surpass and the Mayhem. They all have one thing in comman - They all need a good 3-D pilot.

    Regards, Robin AKA 3-D Wannabe!
