I've had both the Saito 125 and YS 110. I went with the mighty 110 in my Mayhem. Excellent combo. The YS will clearly make more power. And it has the advantage of a pump so the fuel tank can be located anywhere. Usually along the CG line. Also the YS is quicker on spool up because of the supercharger. The YS is harder to tune but once you get it there it requires no additional tuning, ever.

Awesome engine the mighty 110. Nothing against Saitos...I have several, 100, 125, 82, and I like them. But the YS out performs them.

    Thanks
    Barry

Thanks Barry, You seem to be the guru of the Mayhem, after reading this lengthy post. (A 110 it is) never owned one but this should be a good start. Would it be wise to mount the engine sideways to avoid any potential problems running at low R's with inverted engine, I don't want to add any glow igniter gagit and don't want to be thinking in the back of my mind a flame out on approach. Your thoughts?
    PS-Thanks and very nice thread.

Thiis is what I don't want to do. I assume your doing this because you figure the engine won't run correctly. Many posts have indicated no troubles with the YS when properly tuned. None of these engines are specifically designed for inverted flight but some perform fine inverted. I just want to know from those flying it if I have ANY worries-My first YS and First inverted engine. Don't mean to step on your glow plug thing-just something i'm trying to avoid. I work on the KISS principle.

It will be fine on the mayhem as long as it's tuned correctly.

I'm going to try it, but you know how your confidence drops on just one deadstick while on approach. I will have it run in well and tuned right before it goes up-Thanks

Hello. I have been following this tread on and off for over a year now, but this might be my first post. I have been wanting one of these babies for a while now, and as I have been making preparations to purchase one, I still cant decide between the saito 1.25 and the 1.50. I know that a 1.50 would usualy be overkill, but up here in Utah I'm at about 4600 ft and I think I might actually need the extra power. What do you guys think???

    Thanks for the cool thread!

Thanks for the quick reply grandad!,

I think I may be leaning towards the 150 mostly because I have a friend who has one to sell to me for cheap. I do like how little the 125 weighs though. If I go with the 150 I guess it will give me an oportunity to practice my throttle management

    Thanks so much,

    LT

    LT-40,
I have a Mayhem with a YS110 on it. That makes about the same power as the Saito 150. It's a great combo. You should use the 150. I'm even higher than you. You won't be sorry. Prop it with a APC 16x6. That's the same prop I use on the mighty 110. It will work great with the Mayhem. You'll be just over eight pounds with the 150. It will fly great. And you won't believe the flat spins. Just awesome.

    thanks
    Barry

    Thanks Barry,

The 150 it is! Now all I need is about $1000 to get this plane bought and built (Including new radio and digital servos)

Sorry for bringing this thread up again, but I have a quick question about servo choice. I apoligize, because I'm sure that a similar question has been answered, but in my quick scan of the thead, I didn't find quite what I was looking for.
My quesion is, what would the best servo choice be between HS 5645s all around, or 5625s on ailerons and elevator, and a 5645 on the tail?

Being new to this stuff, I'm not sure which would be best. I know that for 3D you want both speed and torque, but would the 5645s bee too slow? or would the 5625s be to wimpy?

BTW, I'll be running on 6v

    Thanks so much,

    LT

i got 5645's all around on my mayhem, and i have no issues - also, on 6V they are little monsters for the money...
with the right control horns and arms, of course.
