    Status: offline     		Last year, at about this time I purchased a used, Sig Mayhem. I bought it sight unseen, which is not a good idea most of the time. It set around for almost a year here, and yesterday I was looking for something to do and there it was.

    I got it down and removed the cowl. It had been setup for a Saito 125A. I removed the mounts and guessed at were they were supposed to be and replaced with a new motor mount.

    I have a ST 90 laying round now due to the death of My beloved Four Star 60 BIY. I have mounted the engine and re cut the cowl for the ST 90 mounted side ways. I don’t think it looks to bad mounted like this.

    When I took the head off of the ST 90 I noticed that there was a lot of carbon built up on the top of the piston. Since it will probably be next year before I fly it I am going to tear down the engine and remove the built up carbon.

    Status: offline     		jship ive flown mahem on st 90 and 1.08 good flying but not great if your going to 3d it hav finished install of 26cc gas engine and test flew today it was crazy power hoverd on 1/4 thottle and still running in so hav room for more power .

    Status: offline     		The biggest thing I was concerned about was weight. With the light frame, I was afraid that it would not take the weight of a gas engine.

    Status: offline     		four more flights today walbro carb tricky to tune .i havnt added any dead weight to my mayem have batt and rudder servo in the tail . only using 250ml tank .was twice that with nitro gussler 10 minute flights easy. motor 900g ignition 100g batt 70g.holding together so far.hav read on this thread of 180 saito on a mayhem.my mvvs is now spinning garvon 18x6 wood prop 7600 with pitts inverted muffler

    Status: offline     		I am continuing on. I have installed the Pits and if You notice I have collapsed one of the two pipes on the muffler. This is to raise fuel tank pressure. The last time I used the pits I did not get consistent runs. Next reinstall the cowl and check the fit.

    Status: offline     		First post...the mayhem 3d will be my second plane and have read that on low rates, it flies as good or better than a trainer. It should be here at the end of next week but just wanted to get a few set-up details given my current skill and components I have available to assemble it.

    I have a Futabs 9cap radio, 5 s3010 servos, approx (90oz) of torque, an OS FS .81a engine from my first plane, a 14x6 KSeries Master airscrew prop, and a 6 volt 1450 mah NimH battery. Also, I'm located in northern Ontario at aprox 700ft above sea level. I don't plan to do 3d right away of course, but wanted to set-up the rudder servo in the tail as suggested in previous posts so that when I do progress, all I would have to do is upgrade the engine to YS 1.10, begin moving the CG aft and increase the control rates, and maybe stronger servos for the evelator and rudder.

    One of my concerns was that the OS FS .81a engine only weighs 19.63 oz or 556 grams. and thought that moving the rudder servo into the tail might make it too heavy in the tail end? Also would this be enough power to get the mayhem off the ground and fly mild aerobatics...lops and rolls?

    Any thoughts or comments about how to best set-up this plane with the current parts available would be greatly appreciated,

    Status: offline     		Trev77 are you getting A 40 size or A 90 size? The 81 is ok for the 40 size.I have A 90 and I have A Saito 150 in mine and it will do any thing A good polit ask of it. I can't fly 3D but I have A buddy that can fly my Mayham 3D.I am running all 126 jr steel gear servos on all my elev rudder and aillrons.I set my plane up like the book called for and it balance with the bat and no extra lead. If you can aford it you would be better off going ahead and upgrade too the bigger motor and servos now and you wouldn't have too recut you cowl.The YS110 would do you better the the 81 all thro it dont take much motor too fly this plan but if you get intoo A pickle the 81 might not have enought too pull it out.Only my thought on it and hope this helps and good luck.

    Status: offline     		Thanks Grandad1 for your reply. I ordered the .90 size mayhem. I'll just wait until I can get a bigger engine and metal gear high torque servos before final assembly. I thought of the 40 size but like the bigger airframes, plus I hear it comes with pretty good hardware, apart from the axles. The snow is starting to fly here and might set it up with some skis as well. Anyone put skis on the mayhem yet?

    Status: offline     		Still need a bit more snow here for skis but if it's anything like last winter...won't be long! What were the dimensions of the skis you used on the 40 size. Would probably need to add a few inches for the 90 size I'm guessing?

    They say they work on up to .60 size airplanes, but what type of snow do you fly off? They worked fine for taking off of the light, fluffy powder and were almost not needed when are runway was packed.

    Status: offline     		Thanks for the link Squeaky Penguin. Unfortunately, our field access isn't plowed during the winter months. This will be my first winter flying, so when the lakes freeze over for ice fishing I plan to do both. Many of the lakes see very little activity during winter and the snow is generally fluffy powder, unless a cold wind after a thaw has been at it, then it can form a nice pack. Since it will be a tail dragger, did you use the same large ski on the rear as well?

    Status: offline     		I've though about taking a plane ice fishing as well, sounds like a good combo; fishing and flying. Only up in Ontario you get to catch walleye I'm sure, I get tired of seeing trout. I don't use a ski on the back. It has no problem staying up when the field is packed, and when it isn't it just sinks a little bit and the tail floats on the light snow.

    Status: offline     		There are lots of lakes with walley...one of the favourites for many, and on the top of my list. So when the fish are not on...I'll be flying the Mayhem...should be fun. Thanks for the tips regarding the skis. like I said, this will be my first winter flying, so all the help is appreciated. Now just have to wait until the plane arrives to start assembly...can't wait.

    Status: offline     		I kept the tail wheel on. I don't know if it really matters though. Here in Colorado we catch Brooke, Rainbow, Cutthroat, and Brown Trout, it just depends on where you fishing.

I understand that the 40 size is a two piece which would make it easier for transportation out on the lakes. Wonder if the larger wind could be set-up as a two peice and still remain strong?

    Status: offline     		Most of the 1000+ posts are on the "big one". What is suggested engine for the 40 size? TH says .4-.46 which seems way silly. A .55? A .61? (2 stroke).

    What are the differences between the 60 (or 90?) versus the 40?

    Status: offline     		I've got an Evolution 46 on my Mayhem 40. I've only flown the plane three times, mostly get it trimmed out but from what I could tell the 46 pulled it around pretty good. I am running a 12.25X3.75 APC prop. The plane weighs about 4 lbs. 12 oz. Weather permitting I will put the Mayhem through its paces this weekend.

    I really want to put a 4 stroke on it and have high hopes that Santa will leave a Saito 82 under the tree for me this Christmas.

    Status: offline     		I've haven't gone flying or fishing for about 6 months, I like the new version of fly fishing! My Mayhem sits idle in the garage with the fishing gear, guess I should make a decision. Flying weather has been perfect, but I hear the walleye are hitting great less than 30 minutes from here.

    Keep up the good work, perhaps I will be inspired to get something outside!
