Well I just received the P-40arf. It came in a well protected box and when I opened it there was a scale model arf in great condition. The outline and all are scale. It has a wingspan 61 inches. It calls for a 61 two stroke or 70-91 4 stroke.. I checked the model for construction flaws and found none. The wood is of good quality, Glue joints are neat and clean. The included and installed 90 degree retracts are a copy of Robarts and comes with OLEO struts. A friend of mine bought the P-40 world models plane, and if this is an indication of quality i'll stick with V-Q Models.

Since receiving the arf i'm half way thu the assemble and have no complaints as of yet .

These VQ P-40's are snap happy. Check the wing tips to see if you have "wash in" instead of the desirable "wash out". If you lift off before the plane has achieved flying speed, the wing will drop (can't remember if it was the right or left wing) and the plane will spiral into the ground. Likewise, if you do a stall test up high in the air, you will discover that it will tip stall suddenly. The mechanical retracts are actually a copy of Hobbico rotating retracts.

Hi guys...I just came home from the WRAM show in NY last weekend with one of these kits. I liked the idea of a P-40 that was NOT done up in AVG markings from China, or that was solid olive drab. Looks like a really nice kit, great construction, etc. Any construction pitfalls I should keep my eyes open for? I haven't started mine yet, but want to have it ready for when the snow finally melts here in the Northeast.

Cubby, what engine are you putting in yours, and how's the fit so far?

Richard, thanks for the advice on stalls...sounds like a lot of WWII scale fighters have the same issues. Have to land them a little hot, right?

Any hints or tips are always greatly appreciated!

Glenn

Most other WWII scale fighters that I've flown did not have the same tip stall tendency. In fact, most of them can be landed nicely without coming in too hot. On the VQ P-40, you do have to come in a little hot unless you use the flaps. I would replace the supplied plastic bellcranks inside the wing with some higher quality ones. The stock bellcranks crack easily on landing.

Hi All, I put a os 70 in it had no construction problems. Haven't had any tip stall problems. Flies great and stable. Do take the strut up date listed on there site. Have a friend that is flying the p-38. flies great also. Can hardly wait till they release the p-61 and the large p-39.

I am interested in how you replaced the plastic bell-cranks on VQ-P40. I am building this plane right now and not having much luck getting retract servo and control rods to line up. I also noticed the plastic bell-cranks and was not impressed by the plastic and thought about replacing them.
