Nice pictures you guys. Man, you all have been busy. I came home from the field and had a bunch of UCD / RCU messages. Two absolutely beautiful days in a row afor flying and this time I had a friend take a few shots of my UCD. What a blast! This thing loves slow flight and doing all kinds of fun stuff. The UCD pilot that I took pic's of yesterday said something that really stuck. Flying this airplane will make a better pilot out of you. I have to agree. At least I am trying things I would never do on the Pitts, P-51 or my Giles. Very forgiving airplane. Not getting too low yet, but this will come as I get better and more brave. Hahaha….
One quick update on vertical. I have to correct my comments about needing more power. I can take off very slowly and then punch it WOT straight up. It goes and goes and keeps on going. It pulls nicely out of a TR without any hesitation. Unbelievable. I weighed mine today. It weighs in at 7lbs 14 oz dry. I am probably 14 oz heavier than most of these because of the reinforcements I made coupled with the aluminum motor mount, True Turn Spinner, 440 rods through out and rubber wheels. Regardless, it hauls and is the most fun airplane I have in the hanger. After seeing how mine flew several guys at the field came up and wanted info on the plane. I think there will be more UCD's at the field. I bet three or four guys were asking about it with real interest.
One comment on the hinges. I used Radio South Blue hinges. Added 2 to each aileron. Couldn't get any more in the horz. stab or the rudder. Note- a guy flying a Futana ( Spelling ?) had an elevator rip free yesterday. He was using the stock hinges that came with his Futana. The hinges didn't actually fail, but the trailing edge of his horz. stab did fail. He got the plane down on one elevator. The elevator was just barely hanging on and trailing the airplane as he came in. very fortunate it got it down.
Here are the pic's from the field today. Hope you like.
Three more of My UCD and check out this ducted fan Jet. This is the same pilot I took Pic's of yesterday flying his UCD. Had to just throw this one in.

They are excellent flying plane's ....I can still remember the first time I took mine out I taxied out ,gave it th e gas ,pulled back on the stick and it leaped off the ground ,straight up , scared the ^&%$ out of me ...after I calmed down The rest of the day was a blast.....I had a OS91fs in it for about a year, once I got used to the plane I wanted more power so I replaced the OS with a YS110fz ....Now it's a animal ...It will hover at 1/3rd throttle and pull's out with a blip of the stick ...Crack it on and it will go into dotsville.....I must say Great plane's has done a great job on this one.....JW

ok.After seeing the above pics and listening to you guys having fun flying the u-can-do,guess i'll have to move mine onto the table today and get started on it.i'm using a 91 surpass 2 with hitec 645 servos on all control functions.i'll have to go to local hs today and pick up a couple of paks dave brown fiberglass push rods. What prop do you 91fs fellas recommend for the 91surpass-2 and should i shim right thrust behind motor mount?Does everyone agree that the landing gear block be fiberglassed?

I've got 3/16 of right thrust in mine with a Saito 100 16x4 apc and it's not enough. I'm interested in hearing what others have for right thrust. I've read lots of posts on this UCANDO 60 landing gear block good, bad and take no chances. On my second landing...the plane came in real slow and landed picture perfect after about 10 feet of roll out I turned the plane around and the landing gear block fell out! The wheel pants went thru the wing! I replaced the block which was pine to aircraft grade plywood. Never had a problem since. My UCANDO 60 is over one year old. I hope the landing gear block has been fixed at the factory. My personal view throw the POS tail wheel wire away! Victor

Lord Lucan I think the 90' manifold and the flex to the muffler will work fine....The fuel consumption of the os I had In the plane was good about 17min max 10min easy don't forget to use a seamless tank if you plan on upgrading to a YS110fz.....
Kroflite54....I haven't had a problem with the landing gear But I did beef it up ...It make's the job easy if you cut a small hatch in the top of the fuse under the canopy,do the mod's and then re-cover...I had a os 91fs turning a 14x6 topfite it worked good It would hover no prob...I then used a APC 14x4w and that worked better...I'm a power pig so I swapped the OS91 out and put a YS110fz in now the plane will hover @1/3rd throttle, instead of 3/4 to 7/8 throttle.......Some right trust is good and on mine a little up was needed....JW

Now he tells me...! You guys talk me into buying the Rolls-Royce Merlin equivlent in" toy aeroplane " land (as she refers to them )...then tell me its not necessary...! I'm spiraling down into financial oblivion...getting all sweaty for when she see's the mastercard statement.... and i'm gona have ,technically, a 'spare' motor.... Stuff it ....gona get another UCD ..TODAY. .. (cash) i'll store it at work...!...........if your going on the Titanic....may as well go first class.. Dave.
Lord Lucan and friends - I don't think you made an error in the engine you purchased. I was simply telling you guys how my 91 Surpass was performing now that the engine has roughly 20 flights on it. At first it did seem a bit stuffy, but now that it's getting broken in it has plenty of power for my kind of flying. I dabble in the 3-D stuff. Others on this thread are more aggressively into 3-D so they may be better informed on what engine would be best for more aggressive 3-D maneuvers.
Matt, here is how my control linkage is set-up on mine. I used 440 rods with solder clevis on one end and threaded on the other. Used Dubro single post control arms. The jet pic is of a BVD Maverick. Engine is a BVM 96 specially designed as a complete power unit with the BVM biofan and pipe. Plane has BVM brakes and remote airborne mixture control. Using Rohm-Air retract system, and painted with automotive acrylic lacquer. It is 5 years old and over 200 flights. Art Azlin is the builder and pilot. He is a master builder and excellent pilot. I added one more picture of the jet just because it turned out so darn good.
