i'd toy with the idea but never actually do it. if you are angry at somebody it is perfectly fine to immagine them writhing in miserable agony in your head, but as long as you don't do it, you are fine. there are no laws preventing you from thinking anything you want.

maybe your friend should get some balloons, some helium, and some Spyderwire to guy them off. Seems the Brits did something similar in WWII! What to watch the wind and not let them blow over the property line!

More than likely since no one has approached him/them and this has been ongoing for awhile, his neighbor probably assumes everything is kosher. I'd get a video or two and keep a log book of activity in a spiral bound note book written and signed/dated in ink. Then I'd contact the zoning and planning commission and file a complaint for zoning violation, that is assert that he's running a "club" on land without a "special use permit". This procedure varies from state to state and county to county so a consultation with an attorney would be appropriate. Basically I'd video tape and log, then approach the land owner in question in a non confrontational manner and ask him if he thought his flying was impacting my lifestyle or not and then inform him it was. Most likely it will end there. I agree with the third party thing as he has expressed that his friend is a hot head, this guy is less emotionally involved and can gain allegiance with the fellows by first explaining that he is a RC'r too and then why he's there. Civil lawsuits are usually for financial damage, that is if you break my (?) then you owe me $xXX.XX Intangible things like quality of life are usually hard to get money for in civil. Like I'd have the house appraised, then sell it and if it were at a loss and due to the airplanes buzzing around, there could be liability there. I think that Land owners do have some rights however and perhaps an agreement could be made as to acceptable times, duration and over flight ect. Compromises usually work best for everyone, I'd bring an offer of limited hrs to the table however it becomes contractual at this point.- good luck

Test`Pilot has the ultimate solution if this story is real. And IF this story is real, I am pretty sure its not his friend, it is HIM.

If they are being that big of buttheads about it, they deserver their plane destroyed.

Like any other urban peace disorder, the police department recommend that any problem, even because the most small thing, should be requested to the police to deal with, to go there and talk to these guys.
We never know what kind of people you gonna deal with and cops say they are here to do this and avoid any confrontation.
Here in Washington, if I play music after hours, like I did already, there will be a cop knocking my door, like already happened. There will never be a neighbor coming to me to complain.

Your friend pay his taxes, so use the cops service!

Well when you and Test Pilot end up hauled into court for willful distruction of private property... and end up paying a fine plus doing community service (and then you automaticly lose the lawsuit for porperty damages and the judge could add punitive damages because of how blatant the act was...) remember....

I told you so.

For one, how would they know I did it? Two, how do the prove it? And there is no law about setting up my plane in my garage(on the same frequency )

Take me to court all day!

Don't get me wrong. I would try the civil route first. But if they insist on not compromising then oh well. Tuff luck for them I guess.

I agree I would call the cops. I found out many years ago unless you are real .. real good friends with your neighbor that it is best to make that anonymous call. I would not call it a chickens**t call . If the police arrive the neighbor could probably figure out who called and if he gets mad and approaches you he probably would have been just as assertive and mad had you approached him yourself ... but this way its for the record he may even approach and apologize. I just con't believe there are people out there with no respect for neighbors.

Me either,

I would never crash a persons plane on purpose unless they were complete arsholes, like the story he explained.

The thing is, the cops may not do anything about it. If that fails, crash his plane!

ok, here's my real throught about this,
first of all if my neighbor was flying planes above my house I would definatly join him and we wuold probably be good buddies, but lets say it's over my friends house and it really does bug him and he wants it to stop, I would talk to them first, talk very nicely with a lot of respect, more than once if needed but if talking didn't help, I wouldn't think twice before calling the cops, but if that didn't help either, I wouldn't waste my time taking them to court and all that cr@p, I would definatly turn on a radio while "working" on my own plane in the garage assuming it's on the same channel, keep in mind I would do my best to make sure this will happen at a moment where the plane WILL go down WITHOUT hurting anyone or anything, again it all depends on the neighborhood, if it's packed with homes, forget it, but if it's a some what open area (cosidering the fact that after all they need somewhat of an open area to fly) I would definatly jam thier signal.
don't get me wong, I love each and every one who I meet that is participating in this hobby, but if you are being an a$$ about this and don't care about anyone else, I will show no respect and try things the way they will understand once and for all. I will not hurt them physically ever! but taking out the plane, i'm sure he'll live with it, besides, he is the one taking the risk flying it above "my" head.

and just one more question,
assuming he is flying it above MY house with permition for agreed times (for example)
and my brother (3 year old) is playing outside and the guy makes a mistake or whatever the reason is and loosing control of the plane and it hits my brother?
than what??
let me tell you this, if it was my house, no matter what time of the day it is, he WILL NOT be flying a plane where he can hurt someone, DEFINATLY not around my house.
go to your local club and fly there, there is a big risk involved so don't be a j@acka$$!

and that is my $5 in.

I have a solution for you,
how about being friendly with these guys so you can find out which channel they are on, and then turn on your radio with the same channel and take over the planes one by one in to the ground!!
HAHAHAHA

or call the cops and do it the boring way.

haha what a solution.....ok, here's mine...I say..."nuke'em for morid" or get my own air force......sh*ithawks from the garbage dump, train em for attack and join the combat...hehe ....poop poop kersplatt....

and thus we have the 3 yr old's opinion. Really... that's right out of pre-school... "I can't get my way... so I'll break his stuff."

Dude,

I don't want to get in a knock down drag out arguement here. You have your opinion, I have mine.

If you will kindly read I said I would do this after I exhausted all other options.

I am one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. I am pretty patient with people. But after I asked them nicely, called the cops, all that and they still insisted on disrespecting me, I wouldn't think twice about killing their plane. If that makes me a three year old so be it. But I will not just continue to take the harrassment when there is an oh so easy solution.

I would be a content and a safe three your old I guess as opposed to a "mature" annoyed, endangered, and frustrated individual.

Oh,

By the way, you call me a three year old again and I'm taking you to court!
