Toz,

Taking your time is the way to go. The slogan is in a prominent spot on the Dora. It has to look good.

Have fun, and post some pics !!!

G'day Guys
Just finished all the repairs to my TF FW190D-9. After about a year in the shop, she's ready the hit the skies again to terrorise those P-51's at my local field. As I said in earlier posts I put a Skyshark 3 blade spinner and fibreglass cowl on it. I also tried to be as authentic as possible with the paint scheme. Thanks Tom for the graphics. They were a real pain in the behind to paint but they turned out ok. I also took a lot of weight out of the tail to limit the amount of lead I have to put up front. The Model is not yet been balanced so I dont know the total weight yet. It should be a bit less than before. The model flew beautifully before, so it should again. I have enquired about a photo shoot at the ME262 workshop and they said they will allow me to take some pics next week. They will be great shots. First flight will be probably sometime after the labour day long weekend. I will keep you all informed and I will post the pics from Paine Field soon.
Regards
Toz.

Great job, Toz !!!

Cowl and spinner look like they may be the answer.

Cutting out that slogan is no fun, but the results are worth it.

Agaiin, NICE JOB !!!

G,day Guys
Just finished the photoshoot at Paine Field. I was fairly restricted in where I was able to go. There was Aircraft and vehicular traffic moving around, but I was still able to take some decent shots. Check them out.

G'day Guys
First flight today was a success. I had 2 flights which were practically event free. She looks great in the air with the red and white paint scheme underneath standing out. I am very happy. I still think my Enya 90 4C is a bit lacking for power. Might need to upgrade to something with a bit more go. The Enya does sound great and does pull the FW around the sky in a very scale like manner but there is not much in reserve. With flaps deployed, the landings are slow and controllable with no tendancy to tip stall. Cant wait for another go.

Way to go, Toz !!!

Good to hear that the red and white stripes stand out. For me, red sometimes turns black and I have trouble seeing it.

Did you get any in flight pics?

Again, Way to go !!!

Toz,

It's not quite done. I've test run the G38. My functional exhaust system sounds great. Taxi test are next.

I'm still working on the retract plumbing. I also have a few things to tidy up in the radio compartment.

My Red1 may not fly this year. I've spent too much time in the shop, and not enough flying. Want my thumbs to be in good working orde be for I fly my Dora.

G'day Tom
I know what you mean about to much shop time. Unfortunitely we all know, that is part of the game. I have looked at the drawing board as much as anybody and would love more stick time. I bought a cheap P51 ARF to kick around at the field to keep my flying skills polished. It flies very well and would kill my Dora in performance, but not in looks.

I've been thinking about getting the TF 190D9, but after reading this thread, would it be safe to assume that an OS .61 FX would not be sufficient if I glassed the plane?

I ask because the towerhobbies combo comes with the kit and said engine.

Hi Scavok
I would definitely go for at least a 91FX for this kit. A 61 would not cut the cake. As you would have read in this thread, the tail is heavy and requires carefull attention to building it light at the rear otherwise a lot of weight up front is nessesary. The performance of this model with adequet power will be superb. Pick a good paint scheme, which there are plenty, change some of the plastic bits as described in this thead and you will have a very impressive model which will turn heads everywhere.
Regards
Toz

Hello Toz,

Prima Gratulliere is not my language. In fact this is an WWII German pilots expression that means "astounding success" or so similar. WAY TO GO!! ...anyway

HI,

Tozdezignz: I've just bought my TF FW-190 D9 with a Saito 100 and retracts. For what I read on this forum, that engine shoud give enough power for it. I want to build it as scale as possible for my skill level witch I could qualify as intermediate (I've already built 7 planes). I want to follow Wulfman's modifications describe on his review shown at Top Flite web site. I'am looking for better solution instead of using TF cowl and Gun hood. Your FW-190 looks really great with Skyshark cowl. I'll be please if you can post a close up photo of it (cowl). Is there any other plastic part you have replace from Top flite kit? If you guys want to take a look to my Rcclub website the adress is www.brossair.com .

G'day FMongrain
Sorry that I have not replied to your request for a long time as my computer crashed and burned due to an agressive virus. I had to get a proffesional to get all my photos back off the hard drive. Computers are crap, but unfortunitely a must in todays word. I took some pics of the skyshark cowl for you. As you can see this is a good alternative for the plastic rubbish TF give in the kit. The gun hood is a Stans Fibertech part and is also much better that the TF one. The other day I installed a 14X6 2 blade prop on the model and found that the performance is much better than the 12X8 3 blade. The model will actually fly scale like on half throtle. If there is any other thing you want to ask, dont hesitate in posting a question.
Regards
Toz

Thanks Tozdezignz for cowl pictures.

I did a lot of progress on my TF FW 190 (see picture) since october. The skyshark cowl is in certainly a good alternative to the Top Flite plastic one. Since I have built the fuse, I can see how the Top Flite cowl don't fit. I realy have good time building this kit and making it as scale as possible and your is a realy good reference for me. I plan to experience (for my first time) making my own cowl and gun hood. You can imagine what may result from that experience that's why I need a good backup solution. The flaps are finished (not shown on the picture) and actualy, I try to fix retracts to the wings. Recommanded wheels (William Bros. #1143 3-3/4 smooth contour scale wheels) are no longer available, the compagny has closed. I asked TopFlite for a replacement part but they don't have any solution. I know that many guys are having problems finding wheels for their warbirds because William Bros. was a reference in the matter. The only alternative I found is the Robart 3-3/4 scale wheels for retracts but they are thicker (1-1/8 compare to Williams that are less than 1"). My other solution is using 3-1/2 wheels instead than I can buy 7/8 width scale wheels. What do you think of it?

G'day FMongrain
You will definitely need thin wheels. I had trouble hiding the the Williams Bros wheels. Once attached to the struts, the strut pertruded slightly below the bottom wing skin. With the fairings attached, the slight hang down of the strut was hardly noticable. Good luck with yours.
