An acquaintance claims to remember some details about this incident. He
says it happened at either Edwards or Mojave (probably Edwards) during
certification testing. The landing was to demonstrate the aircraft's
maximum descent rate of 10 ft/s. The pilot landed at 12-13 ft/s, and the
fuselage failed in bending just behind the aft pressure bulkhead. This area
was reinforced in production aircraft. My coworker also claims there was a
similar incident when an error during a demonstration of minimum unstick
speed ended up bending the aircraft at a point closer to the wing trailing
edge, making it vaguely banana-like.

Status: offline 		It was at edwards. I saw this on some other website somewhere and they had a link the the accident investigation report. If i remember correctly that is a DC-9 not an MD-80. I will see if i can find the link and post it here.
