I've recently purchased a Violator and was wondering if I should go through it b4 running. I have more time than money and don't like surprizes. If so, how far down should I go and what should I double check and then check again?

Tighten down all the screws. Check the gear mesh. Check throttle and steering endpoints.

will gear mesh be obvious when i see it? and are you refering to max servo throw for steering and throttle-brake? if so, don't you check every time before you run?

No it is not obvious. Hold the little gear with a screwdriver. Now wiggle the big one. It should barely wiggle. You can't tell by looking at it. I didn't check mine once and I ended up with a stripped spur.

Turn on the radio and car (not the engine, just electronics) Make shure the carb is not open when you are not touching the trigger. Now squeeze the trigger all the way, the carb should open all the way.

Don't touch the wheel, the tires should be straight. If not adjust the steering trim from the radio. Sometimes you have to reset the servo because it is so bad. To do this turn the car off. Now line up the wheels. Pop out a AA or RX pack (depends on what you have) make shure the wheels are still straight. Set the steering trim on your radio to 0. Now put the batteries back. And turn on the car, the wheels should be straight. If not mess with the steering trim.

I would recommend taking the engine out and sealing the back plate with high temp silicon and seal the carb as well...

What about the diff's? and are there any other slop, mesh, freeplay, tightness, etc. checks in the drivetrain? again I don't like and can't afford expensive surprizes

Hello,

I am a newbie to this board but a vet on some other ones. I know you mean well but imho 'keeping the thread alive' makes some people upset and can prevent information flow later on. I doubt you will get flamed on this board though, but I just wanted to pass on the advice as politely as I can.

Cheers,

Brett

dont forget the lock tite on all your screws. especially engine mounts. i know money is an issue but a fail safe is a must. cost a few dollars but will save your car from flying out of controll into a tree or someones leg ! lol as ive recently discovered ...

That won't accomplish anything. The servo remembers where center is. If you were to remove the power from the servo, set the wheels straight, set the trim to 0, and then give power to the servo again - the servo would turn automatically.

I just have to add that this is the correct way to center the steering servo:
1. Unhook the steering linkage from the servo
2. With power to the servo and the Tx on, set your steering trim to 0
3. With the wheels straight, put the steering linkage back onto the servo
And your done.

Matt
