Well, I've thought of a couple more things to say about MAC II. CL flying: I really, really, really appreciate MACII setting aside the separate field for Control Line. It was THE big factor that brought the SYFC people up from Singapore. They were quite dissatisfied with last year's arrangement, because they only got to fly for a few minutes. It was unfortunate that they got caught up in a huge traffic jam outside Melaka Saturday, so they didn't arrive until 7pm. And fears of another jam had them leaving at 1pm on Sunday (the kids had school on Monday - no 4 day holiday for them). So our plans of teaching the orphan kids how to fly didn't quite get off the ground. Still, Sunday morning, quite a few kids did get handle time, with the Singaporean kids as instructors. I told the Singaporean kids (mostly boys) that it was too bad they didn't get there the day before - there was a large crowd of pretty girls hanging around making sandwiches, and they were kinda bored... We did a fair amount of Combat model flying, and some actual bouts. Always good when this happens! Note to myself: I should brief James on what to say when he's explaining about CL Combat models. We do NOT measure the streamer length when determining the winner! Flight school: Sazali (?) did a roaring trade. James has the number of people who got some stick time, it was a pretty good number! I would've given it a try myself, but what little RC flying I've done has been Mode 2, and I want to stick with that mode.. Demonstrations: I must say, I thought Boon's helicopter flying was stupendous. I've seen people flip and roll helicopters before, it's so common I yawn when I see it, but Boon did it PRECISELY. 6 feet of the ground. Exactly where he wanted to do it. It was inspiring. The jet was fun to watch, though I've seen enough turbine flying that it's no novelty to me. The mishaps were dissapointing, though I'm sure the crowd will remember them for a long time. F3A competition: It was nice to see some REAL competition actually take place (as opposed to fun fly type stuff). I thought it was fairly well run. Most F3A meets aren't run as public displays - the people who show up are fliers and associated people, and it's a good thing when you have twenty or thirty fliers, because pattern flying is like watching paint dry when you have that many competitors. But the small number of competitors kept it short enough that interest was up. I sat through the whole thing. Heli fun fly: I thought that was fun to watch. The high possibility of someone crashing kept the interest up! Ministers' visits: Dr. Mahathir was on time, the other one wasn't.. I enjoyed doing those demos - too bad we didn't have two of us or we could've tied treamers on. I'm wondering what feedback there's been about the Combat model flights ("Oh.. that noisy one flying on the string?" ).. Audience: Yeah, it was sparse. One thing to do next time would, perhaps, be to hand out fliers to all the Sunday fliers at Sungei Buloh and have them give them out at work and elsewhere. I wish I'd had a few to give out. But it did turn out that most of my co-workers left town that weekend. The 4 day weekend really hurt.
