Helllp! I've been flying my minilaser3d on stock setup and found stock performance, uhm well, Yawn, ok for awhile. Not knowing much about brushless combos I bought the smaller one of 2 at lhs, himax 2015 5400. Been trying to work out good prop+gear ratio on motocalc without a lot of success. Anyone have experience with this plane+power setup? Thinking gws 300c with d gearing on ? prop. Any suggestions? Or am I asking to much out of this motor? Thanks for any and all help!
Plane minus powertrain-9.5oz.
Current batteries-8 cell 600ae (Lipo's in not to distant future)
Motor-Himax 2015 5400 with gws 300c Coming soon

I have a gws 300 d on my Wattage Live wire with a 1047 prop. It works well, and should be pretty comperable to your plane. It draws 8 amps though, which requires a 2000 mah li-poly.

EDit: Actually I have a Gws 350c with the c gearbox (5.33:1) and a 1047 prop and 2100 thunderpower li-poly. Here is a link to the specs on the gws 350c:

Thanks Scott, is that with stock or brushless motor? Any pictures of livewire, I haven't seen one yet.

AAahh. Finally picked up himax 2025 4200 and gws 300 gearbox 5.33-1 and thp 1320 3sj. Unfortunately I didn't find out till this morning that this pack only discharges at an average 6c. What does this really mean as far as flying with some aerobatics and hovering? Is this all the current (7.92a) I can safely draw and for how long? Man, these electrics can fry a wallet faster than a lipo sucking 500 amps! Hope someone has real world experience and can help.

I have tried 3 motors now and all drew 8 or more amps. With my 1320 and 1500 li-polys, I only get about 8 minutes of flying, and the packs only take 700-900 mah to recharge. 6 C rates are too much IMO. I now have a 2100 2S Thunder power, and everything is OK. I get 15-20 minutes good flying, and the pack takes 1500+ mah to recharge.

WOW! I tried out my setup today in living room, oops. Mini Laser 3D, Himax 2025 4200 in gws 300 "c" geared 5.33-1 and 10/4.7 prop. First set bec to 9v then ran it tied down at different throttle settings, LOOKOUT! I blew a pict. off wall and towed a pair of shoes around . Used wot about 4 times about 10 seconds each and the rest 1/4-3/4 throttle for 10 minutes, feeling battery(thp1320 3sj) every 3-5 minutes. The battery never felt above room temp. Holding onto plane pointed up it feels like it will hover at a little over 1/2 throttle and at full bore I was suprised by pulling power, if I had let go I would have a nice hole in ceiling . After 10 minutes of "flying" checked voltage-11.62 and motor was pretty warm, but not hot, Icould easily hold it indefinatly. This is my first bl lipo power system and am really impressed. Hoping for more suggestions on batteries and prop combos. Thanks everyone for all the info here at rcu!
