I did a post to RCU and asked what it meant. It means:
To The Top example: put an item to the top a list, email or post

I've added it to the list and will be posting a new list sometime later this week.

Minor nitpick: mah is milliamps TIMES hours, not per hour. Measures total charge. eg, a 1000 mah battery can deliver 1000 milliamps (or one amp) of current for a total ONE hour. A 2000 mah battery can deliver 1000 milliamps current for TWO hours.

Thanks for your input. Any input and help is greatly appreciated.

I understand your description in terms of battery output, but I also want to make sure it is clear for battery charging (input). Let me try and think of a way that I can describe it clearly for both situations.

In the meantime, if you can come up with a one liner description, that will satisfy both situations and also be clear for beginners, please let me know.

Exactly the same for charging: 1000 ma (note ma, not mah!) charge rate for 1 hour = 1000mah stored charge, assuming the battery capacity is great enough to store that much charge. 1000 ma current for two hours into a 3000 mah battery means 2000 mah of stored charge, or the battery is 2/3 rds charged. This assumes an ideal battery, no losses to heat, which always occurs. Easiest way to say for both is "milliamps of current multiplied by the time it flows, measured in hours".

Thanks for the info, now the challenge is to get a short form of it all on one line for the list.

By the way, I understand that it takes (1.6 ma x C) into the battery to fully charge a NiCd or NiMh. This assumes the battery is not partially charged.

Example: A 1000 mah battery needs to be charged at 1000 mah for 1.6 hours, or a 1000 mah battery needs to be charged at 1600 mah for 1 hr. to obtain full charge.

Can you confirm the above?

I think the example you give is accurate for nicads. Certainly what we have all done for years with them with our wall wart chargers. Do not know whether it is also true for other battery technologies. You might ask Red for his thoughts. BTW, I was really pleased to find your list of acronyms.

Thanks for the information. I appreciate your comments regarding the list, it is great to know people are finding it useful. I'll be posting the updated list this week end.

I notice your from Colorado Springs. I used to travel and I enjoyed your part of the country, and at one time flew at the Black Forest Flying Club across from the Air Force Academy (I'm not sure the club is still there), and also visited the Cave of the Winds and the pottery factory, infact I have purchased pottery from there.

I originally learned to fly RC in Denver at Lowery from Lloyd Nicholson back in the late 60's and I've only been back to ski since then.

This is off topic for this post, but I'm fairly new myself and I know how frustrationg it can be. I'll try and help if I can.

I would first visit the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) found at the top, this has lots of information regarding posts, you should read this, it has lots of useful information.

Basically, to make a new post you have to go to that forum, then go to the top of the page and start searching down the left side of the page - there is a box stating "NEW POST", click on it and your off and running.

To get to the forum, you can either search the forum from the list at the opening page of RCU. As an alternative you can find an existing post in the forum that you want and click on the name of the forum, this is right beside the name of the post. Then click on "NEW POST".

Another hint. If you want to go to the last page of a post, click on the arrow at the right hand side of the title of any post listed.
