Wayne Miller -> RC Universe abreviations, terms and acronyms list (2/14/2004 9:53:13 PM)

Hi,

Please find at the end of this thread an updated list of RC Universe abreviations, terms and acronyms that I have collected since I started with RC Universe. I've seen questions about what they mean and thought I should post them for everyone's benefit.

To copy the list, first highlight it with your mouse, then copy it with (ctrl c), open your word processor and paste it into the word processor with (ctrl v). To print it directly to your printer, first highlight the list then select "FILE" from the upper right of the screen, then select "PRINT" from the menu, then "PRINT SELECTION".

If you know of other terms that you would like to see added, please post them and I'll update the list for everyone.

I hope you find this useful.

Wayne Miller

Thanks Wayne. That's a pretty comprehensive list. I think I'll make it a stickie for a while.

Here are a few more too:

GP = Great Planes Mfg. Co.

CGM = Carl Goldberg Models

MK = Monokote

UC = Ultracote

H9 = Hangar 9 Mfg Co

4* = Four Star 40 (or 60) = A popular second airplane

Hi Mike B.

I've added them to my list and wait untill I get more before I post a new list.

Thanks for your input.

And to think that I thought that AMA was Academy of Model Aeronautics.
I guess after 20 years as a member I could be wrong

LOL

3DFanatic -> RE: RC Universe abreviations, terms and acronyms list (2/15/2004 6:00:16 AM)

CP can also be center of pressure. But you don't see that term much in R/C.

Wayne Miller -> RE: RC Universe abreviations, terms and acronyms list (2/15/2004 3:26:06 PM)

Hi Pedro and 3DFanatic,

I'm a Canadian and took a guess at AMA definition - I've put them both in the new list - just to be safe. I'll remove the remove the first definition if you think it shouldn't be there, let me know.

Thanks for the new definition 3DFanatic.

Best regards,

Wayne Miller

Stick Jammer -> RE: RC Universe abreviations, terms and acronyms list (2/15/2004 5:26:34 PM)

Quite a list indeed. It could be just me, but I'm thinking that LOL - Laugh out loud, IMHO - In my honest opinion, JMHO - Just my honest opinion. [:D]

Mike Bogh -> RE: RC Universe abreviations, terms and acronyms list (2/17/2004 10:41:44 PM)

IMNSHO....In my not so humble opinion....

Woodpile -> RE: RC Universe abreviations, terms and acronyms list (4/17/2004 10:40:02 PM)

Wayne,

TNX for taking the time to make the list...

Might I suggest "PC". It means "Percussive Maintenence" or the act of smacking the stuffing out of some electronic compenent in an attempt to get it working again...

Ed Smith -> RE: RC Universe abreviations, terms and acronyms list (4/17/2004 10:57:37 PM)

Would it not be easier and far less open to mis-interpretation if we just used the actual words rather than the idiotic abbreviations?

Wayne Miller -> RE: RC Universe abreviations, terms and acronyms list (4/17/2004 11:38:58 PM)

Hi Ed,

Your right, but unfortunately some people are using the short forms or acronyms. I had found I had difficultly following some of the posts and thought a list may be helpful.

Professionally, you should always list the full term and the acronym together the first time it is used in correspondence so the reader has a reference for the rest of the document.

Since this was not being done, I started the list in hopes to prevent others from getting lost. I hope it has helped.

I've sent you a personal email since we live fairly close. I would like to know where your flying field is.

Best regards,

Wayne Miller

TimothyM -> RE: RC Universe abreviations, terms and acronyms list (4/19/2004 3:47:45 PM)

Yesterday I bought a used RTF GP Ex300s from the LHS. It has a BB OS FS 70. The AUW is good but the CG is aft. I will put 2-3 Oz in the fore end of the plane. It has TF MK with a red fuse and stab and stripes that run from the LE to the TE. I usually prefer H9 UC. At WOT, this should spin an APC 14x4 prop at 10K RPMs. The power to weight is yet TBC. The Tx is a JR XP622 w/ STD 700 NiCd batt. The Rx batt is a 1800 mah NiCd. To save weight, I'm gonna add custom CF LG and a NiMh batt. FYI I'm ROFLMAO now. I guess I have TMTOMH. (too much time on my hands) THX, CYA!

Thanks Tim,

Enjoyed your post, I've added the ones that I didn't have, and will post the new list this weekend.

Wayne Miller -> RE: RC Universe abreviations, terms and acronyms list (5/3/2004 2:31:25 PM)

Hi Mitty,

Before I add your new term I just want to confirm. Is IRC(interner relay chat) correct, I'm not familiar with "interner", what does this mean? Should it be "internet" or "internal".

Thanks for your help.

Wayne Miller

J_R -> RE: RC Universe abreviations, terms and acronyms list (5/4/2004 10:58:59 PM)

Wayne

IRC is internet relay chat. mIRC is a client program to access IRC.

and yes, the small m is intentional

bgruenba -> RE: RC Universe abreviations, terms and acronyms list (5/10/2004 5:21:27 PM)

YMMV - Your mileage may vary
**** - also Who the Fudge
FOAD - Fly Off and Die. (Substitute Fly Off with locally used words)
IRCHA - International Radio Controlled Helicopter Association
IMAC - International Miniature Aerobatics Club

What I want to know is **** E-TOC is. I am assuming European Tournament of Champions. Is that correct?

Wayne Miller -> RE: RC Universe abreviations, terms and acronyms list (5/10/2004 5:49:30 PM)

Hi Bgruenba,

I've added your suggestions to the list and they will be on the new list. I usually wait a couple of weeks before posting, so everyone as chance to let me know of any new additions.

I'm sorry, I don't know what "E-TOC" is, Hopefully someone can help us.

BTW, I like your "ARF to KIT converter" signature, I'm sure we can all identify with it.

Best regards,

Wayne Miller

Mnay of these terms come from even BEFORE IRC stuff. Anyone remember dial up bulletin boards?
At that time, we also had no graphics, so "smileys" were again nothing more than two or three keystrokes. I owned/operated one on a two line system for many years.

Ahhh, nostalgia....[:)]

Dano13 -> RE: RC Universe abreviations, terms and acronyms list (6/10/2004 5:09:52 PM)

Wayne Miller,
I am sure many others, myself included, very much appreciate what you are doing here! I am sure it can be a bit time consuming at best, keeping up with all the posts.

One "term" I cannot believe that has not been submitted to this point is xTAL, XTAL, xtal. Meaning crystal. It took me the longest time to figure that one out!

IMHO, it would also be VERY useful if this thread was possibly cross-posted in the begginers forum.

You have done a great service here, with regular updates. I commend you for it!

I found it very interesting that your original post included I, E R, and P. Many out there do not have any electrical/electronics background (I do).

Once again, you have done a great service with this (bet you didn't expect such a response [:)] ) Keep it up...

Wayne Miller -> RE: RC Universe abreviations, terms and acronyms list (6/11/2004 3:21:43 AM)

Hi Dano13,

Thank you for taking the time to write, I really appreciate your comments and your input. I have added XTAL etc. for the next posting.

The thread was started in hopes to help others. I had to struggle through the acronyms when I first visited RCU, and thought the list might help others.

So many people have helped me during my years of modeling, I think I should try and give back something.

I did do a post and linked this with the Electric FAQ for beginners, feel free to post the link where you see it may be needed.

Again, thanks for your comments, it makes it all worth while.

Fly4Fun,

Wayne

How about UWYH - Use what you have. Heck we all have a big box of stuff that we need to use!
