Hi Guys

Boomerang is coming together at a great speed now the slow part of plug detailing is basically done. I've learnt a whole lot about plug making tho which will make the next project heaps quicker.

The idea of selling a few extra Boomerangs once I've done my "u-Beat2" and "Sinbad" is certainly there but I know producing them to sell is big step on from making your one. I already have a number of requests for copies so I guess it will have to happen

Richard

Gidday again

Just a few pics of the battery configuration with the new A123's. The wings are being made in foam and almost ready to panel. The new motor has arrived as well so ever closer.

Tom and Beryl are arriving today, keen as mustard for a look at the progress. They're having a few days away from the Gold Coast while the race is on over the weekend. It's on their doorstep and hard to get in and out without special security passes etc, so a pain for them.

cheers
PAtti

Just to clarify, the wings PLUGS are being made in foam, the actual wings will be hollow composites. And the pics which for some reason didn't happen the first time.

Fantastic! She is looking great Patti and Richard! I wish I had more time to be able to get stuck into my 1/6 scale Boomer. I just don't have the time these days. Can't wait until I retire!!

James.

Hi again

The first moulded wing fresh out the mould this morning - and it fits Internals in place and the wing weighed 1.5kg. Probably a tad heavier than first estimated, looking like auw may be around 35-40lb with the bigger motor but HEAPS of strength and power. Probably could get another one lighter in hindsight and additional ones out of the mould would be. Err on the side of strength first up. Remembering that this is a 108" w/s plane though so not a problem.

cheers for now
Patti

Another year almost over and the Boomerang is inching closer to flight. It's now sitting up on wheels - fixed u'carriage for the time being. The balance came out really well, not particularly taily at all. Originally Richard thought the batteries would have to be well into the nose but now it looks like they could be distributed either side of the main spar. He's working on the elevator at the moment and getting the whole tail end finished and ready to fly.

The plug for the main canopy has been smoothed and is ready to pull. He made the other wing and it came out 20% lighter by perforating the core so no will make another starboard wing the same, to match. But with the mould sitting there and the drawings for the internals done, that's just a few nights work.

He also load tested the wing structure to 4G with bags of fertilizer and it barely flexed so he's extremely happy with the composite structure. All going well

Only a bit over a week til the fat man in the red suit comes - hope you all get what's on your wish list If not, you've probably not been good enough

cheers and Happy Christmas to you all

Patti

Hi Patti,

The Boomer is looking good. You and Richard must be getting excited about getting closer to a test flight. Will the prototype get any paint before testing or will it fly in primer? I guess at least you don't have to worry about it getting oily and messed up if you want to paint it later!!!!

Cheers

Mick

Mick, by the time the field dries out enough to use the plane will probably be painted and fully weathered!!! But if the sun comes out and she's ready to fly then yep, it will be just as it is out of the mould. Here's hoping we see that elusive sun and a bit less rain.

cheers

Hello Patti

I have been following this awesome development program with much interest. I would really love to have a kit of the Boomerang from your molds - can you advise whether you have plans to indeed offer a few for sale later? If so, please put me on the list.

Happy New Year

Joshua

Hi Dave, been wondering where you've been hiding Any progress on the Lanc at all?

Guess what, we have SUN toady

We had the Boomer running around in the slop on Christmas day and I got a video, not a very good one as there wasn't much room and lots of puddles but maybe we should edit a bit and stick it up on Youtube just for the fun of it. At least there is movement, if not airborne. Our flying field is currently under water and the tractor has been lost in the bog for about 2 months, but hopefully when things dry out again it'll be in the air quite quickly, not finished or painted but in the air.

Joshua, I can't really answer that at the moment. Maybe once it's finished but in the meantime still lots of work to be done to finish it. Theoretically it'd be possible to produce others from the moulds, maybe you'd like to come and collect it Just stay in touch and keep nagging

What number are you up to on the 47 Pete, rivet #??

Happy New Year to you all

cheers
Patti

Hi Dave, been wondering where you've been hiding Any progress on the Lanc at all?

Yeap

Not a whole heap but some more important steps. I would have done some glassing by now but my stock of resins has gone funny on me and i didn't want to risk it on the lanc. I might go visit pete this week and pick up enought to get me going. I'll be going back to my very cost effective supplier next week . I'm also back onto shift work now which is a little bit of a pain, but on the plus side, i get sooooo much more modelling done. I'll post some pic's of my lanc's progress soon. Just want to get a little more done.

The Boomer is looking great as all your models do! are you going to have a canopy installed for the first flight or just tape over the hole? HOw have you guys found the A123 cells? I just had my first li-po fire in the boot of my car driving home from the model field 2 days ago.... not going to stop me using them in the slightest, but the A123's might be good for the lanc?

Thanks

dave
