Amazon.com has Piece of Cake on DVD and VHS. Great Spitfire movie. Outstanding flight scenes. True Classic.

Ok, I watched and taped "Hell's Angels". Man, what cheesy acting! A few bits of color cinematography here and there to highlight what Mr. Hughes must have felt important. The characters of Monte and Roy were something. Monte was a coward to the core. Ms. Harlow did a great job of playing a Floose. The dog fight and action scenes were actually pretty good for a 1930 film.

That's because they used real planes for all the flying scenes. Two pilots were killed making this film.

Blue Max is my favorite and Strategic Aircommand because my Dad was a pilot on one of those beautiful B-47's. He used to let me go up inside the plane and sit while he told me stories about flying over Russia and other places back then. He was only 25 at the time and already a pilot! Seems hard to believe but he flew out of Lincoln and was gone on TDY for what seems like forever but he always brought home gifts from all over the world. He told me about how dangerous the plane was on take offs and landings but loved to fly her other wise, he saw plenty of his friends die in those 47's and was later grounded for back problems. I wish I could get an RC kit or ARF of that proud bird.

What a thread! Combines 2 of my passions--R/C scale aircraft/fullsize aircraft and movies. How about AIRFORCE ONE with the way of recovery of passengers from one aircraft to another. And CONAIR with the landing of the aircraft in Las Vegas. And MEDUSA'S CHILD where they're trying to persuade a bomb to fit through the door of the aircraft out at sea. Medusa's Child, I think was a TV mini series many years ago. I had it on tape but something happened to the tape so looks like I surf the net until I find a copy. And being a scale modeller, call me a purist--but gawd do I hate seeing havards etc done up as zeros

Dark Blue World and Piece of Cake. Everything else trails way behind. Of course, that's only an opinion!

I went to see Flyboys last weekend and took my 11 year old son soon to be pilot with me. He is nuts about RC. I learned to fly this year and plan to teach him next summer. We both loved Flyboys and I don't give ratings of 1-10 but it was great and you have to see it on the BIG SCREEN to fully appreciate it. I'm buying the DVD as soon as it comes out to add to my collection. I am really impressed with the way they make those planes look and fly so realistic. It's definitely worth the admission fee and popcorn.

Anyone seen the italian movie dubbed into english that follows the story of a pilot who's lifetime obsession is to join the italian air force display team. When he makes it, he then invents the wingover manouver that they used to win a competition against other nation's air force display teams. I cant remember the name of the movie.

New Movie coming out later this month called "Flags of our Fathers". From the previews on TV should be a great movie for WWII aircraft enthusiasts.
From the short preview I definately saw some Corsairs and a couple of Unidentified bombers.

Happy Flying

Tom

Hre is an oldie but a goodie, ever seen Wake island from 1942? The leased every Ryan SC-W ever made and painted meatballs on them to use as Japanese planes. This was made at a time when the Allies were losing and it was the first Hollywood moral file.

There is an Errol Flynn collection that came out on DVD last week. It includes The Dawn Patrol and Dive Bomber. In Dive Bomber, love the flyovers that occur whenever they go out to the flightline. I think every Navy aircraft was in the film, including F3F's and Brewster Buffalos.

Test Pilot with Clark Gable. My great uncle is in it at the end when Gable talks to the new pilots; that group is the first B-17 squadron.

Aces High
Best WWl movie of all time. The Blue Max is a close second.
Best flying shots has to be The Hunters (Korea, F86's and Mig15's)

I dont believe I got all the way to the end and no one has mentioned Bat 21, Gene Hackman and Danny Glover VetNam. Mostly on the ground but a great flying movie all the same. And an old favorite God Is My Copilot. some one mentioned it back around post 60. Doc
