Well, I have two other planes on the bench at the moment but I might just try it out next week. Tomorrow I cant build and Sunday I am going flying. As soon as I get these two electrics finished up(What I am flying Sunday)[:D] I will mount the engine tomorrow night and report back. I just went on Airborne Models/The World Modells site and looked at their diagram for the mount so I have a pretty good idea of how to use the mount and it actually looks like it will work pretty well? I really want to fly this sucker everyone I talk to that has one likes it so I am looking forward to it especially with the struts.[:D]

I attempted the maiden flight on mine yesterday, but the right gear folded up on run up. Results were a few minor scratches on the underside of the wing. I hate it. Also, have a question about the CG. Mine is at the recommended of 4.5, but it seems a bit nose heavy. Has anyone moved it back successfully?

rare_bear -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/21/2005 12:17:20 AM)

safer to start out with what seems to be nose heavy than to be sorry.... at least on a new plane you're not familiar with.

you can always fine tune it to your liking from there by repositioning battery pack....
so don't ''cement'' it into place until you're satisfied.

i believe taildragger has his per manual speck and it flies like a rocket - lands like a gem
(except for todays emergency landing after his connecting rod busted - good save dave)

taildraggerdave -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/21/2005 2:01:18 AM)

Yes and thanks. Rare Bear is right. My plane is balanced exactly on the book mentioned CG and it flies superb. I would not change the CG that I currently have for any reason. The stock retracts work excellent so unfortunately, Cruz, it is probably a setup problem on your retracts. You want to make sure that when the gear is down and locked, the rod is pushed (or pulled, I don't remember) all the way into the locked position. If your servo doesn't travel enough or whatever, let the slack be on the gear up side of the stroke. Come on guys, let's get these things in the air........

MustangAce -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/21/2005 2:04:45 AM)

this P-51 Rocks

cruzomatic -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/21/2005 2:32:19 AM)

I'll make the adjustments. I haven't even looked it over to see what the problem was but need to prior to Friday as that's when I'm planning to take 'er up again. I'll let you all know. Thanks again guys,

Is that the GSP Hawker you were talking about?

Phantom pty -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/21/2005 6:17:33 AM)

Guys recevide my WM P51 but I am having trouble finding a YS 110 they keep pushin the date of arrival
mid feb then Mid March now is Mid April checked most mayor dealers and no luck !!

Any body have any place where they could be found..

If not I may have to look for alternative maybe Saito 100.. Anybody has exoperience with this combination..??

MLC -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/21/2005 2:01:53 PM)

I just picked up my Saito 100 for my WM51 this weekend. Got it mouted to the beams with the stock set up, just need to fiddle around with it to make sure the prop shaft is centered.

Anybody use a flex pipe exhaust system to keep from haveing the muffler stick out the side? Where it is pointing now it is going to be blowing oil all over the retract.

rare_bear -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/21/2005 4:35:34 PM)

yeah, but i found out that it built by KMP (kondor model products)

very nice looking plane and it looks wicked in the air.

MustangAce -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/22/2005 2:33:13 AM)

I think the wait for the YS110 is well worth it...........

Central Hobbies or ChiefAircraft.com usually has them when they get off the boat.

MLC -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/24/2005 3:16:54 PM)

Well, my plane is pretty much done. Just waiting on my 9303 & reciever to hook everything up. It balanced perfectly on CG listed in the manual and that is a first for me.

I wanted to use a flex pipe exhaust to keep from cuttting the cowl but, in the end decided to just use the standard Saito muffler. Does not look to bad. I also mounted a remote glow and refueler up in the bottom so it can be easly reached thru the air exit hole.

lectronx -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/24/2005 11:42:48 PM)

The CG is 4.5" back from the leading edge and just above of the wing. How is the plane held when this is done? What does it pivot on? I take it that it is fully assembled (Wings,Prop/Spinner/Electronics, etc.) Is all this just fitted in first where you'd like it to be and then work from there?? Wing on/Wing off sort of thing (moving batteries etc.) Thanks All. ec

taildraggerdave -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/25/2005 3:20:21 AM)

Turn the plane upside down and balance it like that.

cruzomatic -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/26/2005 4:30:43 AM)

Well, I flew mine today for the first time and all I can say is WOW. What a great flying plane. Takes off easy, just point it into the wind and ease into the throttle and she'll be airborne in no time. Matched up with the Saito 120 with an APC 15x8 prop, it flys fast, not sure how fast, but must be close to 90+ mph. I switched over to high rates and it rolls faster than my 4*60. I have some pics I'd like to share with you all, but they'll have to wait until tomorrow as my digi cam is in my flight box downstairs in my shop and I'm too lazy to get it just this minute. So stay tuned. Landings were super easy and way slow with flaps. What a plane, I love the flaps as this is the first plane I've flown with flaps. It really, really slow the plane down a lot and looks scale as it's coming in. This plane gets a big thumbs up from me.

Pics to come, check back tomorrow.

taildraggerdave -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/26/2005 6:13:49 AM)

FWIW, I am running an APC 12x13 prop on my Saito 1.20---that's fast.

cruzomatic -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/26/2005 6:20:58 PM)

Here they are as promised. [:D]

taildraggerdave -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/27/2005 2:56:28 AM)

Looks good.

cruzomatic -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/27/2005 3:25:47 PM)

Thanks. I like how the flaps slow it down to a crawl for landings. Do you use them for take offs as well?

taildraggerdave -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/27/2005 4:19:11 PM)

Yes. On my 9C, I have my flaps on the 3 position switch and have roughly 10degrees on takeoff. Then when it is time to land, the first "notch" of flaps is 10 degrees and counteracts the descent when I chop the throttle. Lastly, 45degrees brings it down on base and final. When I set down, I dump the flaps and the plane sticks like glue on the mains. Pretty.

cruzomatic -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/27/2005 5:03:31 PM)

Okay, thanks for the additional tips. I like this plane a lot.

MustangAce -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/27/2005 5:26:32 PM)

On my 9c I have them on the left slider. Fully proportional.

cruzomatic -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/27/2005 7:20:58 PM)

On my Eclipse 7, I have them on a knob, but it's not that easy to get to while in the air. I'm working on it though I guess. [;)]

swoody -> RE: World Models .60 size P-51 Mustang--Petie 2nd version (3/28/2005 12:11:24 PM)

Hi Mustang lovers.

I have read this post from start to finish drooling enviously over the cool factor of some of these Mustangs. I had to get one and it's in the garage almost ready to start Once my wife looks the other way. I am young to the hobby of flying as this is my 2nd gas plane (Classic os46lx was the first) and i have had the GWS mustang and the BN2 electric but don’t really compare to gas. The GWS mustang was a handful for me but I did get on top of it after numerous crashes. It was more like a chunk of flying epoxy with a P51 sticker on it when I was done with it.

Anyhow i was wondering if any of you guys would be kind enough to answer some questions on servos for the World Models Mustang-60?

I have to buy some new servos at this point and was told by my local hobby store that standard Hitec servo's will do as he himself has the 80" version of this plane and said It wasn’t all that fast a plane.

After reading this thread im not sure?

I have a 7 channel eclipse with HS-425BB's, currently 5 are used in the trainer.

Anyhow my first question is will th HS-425BB's do the job, excluding the retracts?
HS-425BB 4.1kg at 6.0V 45.5 grams

2nd question i found another Hitec servo i like as it's lighter and has more torque but strangely Hitec say it's only good for a 6lb plane?

HS-225MG (Metal Gear) 4.8kg at 6.0V 31 grams with 6 lbs plane limit.
HS-425BB 4.1kg at 6.0V 45.5 grams with no 6 lbs lmit.

I thought the HS-225MG should handle a bigger plane over the HS-425BB?
Anyone able to clear that up for me?

I have not yet selected my motor but have drooled extensively over the YS110FZ thanks to some of you guys.

Do you think this motor is too much for someone like me? Note, I am confident on the gas trainer and I will be weened on to the Mustang by a guru flyer at the club. Plus It’s real hard to wipe the grin off my face thinking about it! He He.

Hope I can help you guys out some day. It’s most frustrating for me not having much to offer with the limited experience I have.

Regards

Steve (Sydney Australia)
