Hey guys, I have over 30 flights on the mustang now. The stock soft engine mount rubber is starting to fall apart. Is anyone just attaching the engine right to the mount with out the soft mount?

wow - now i am glad that i did not use it on mine.

you can use a solid mount right on the firewall - no problemo.

i used a gator RC isolator mount (no longer avaialble)

Same here. Stock mount, no rubber. I even had to cut a bunch away from the stock mount to get the engine where I wanted it.

JR791 - retracts (260oz)
HS645MG - flaps, rudder, elevator (106oz)
HS425BB - aielrons, throttle

Thanks, Rare Bear -

I'll use those servos. ... unless I get the DX 7 servos and I'll see which ones will work.

Today, I started glassing the fuse for Reno style paint. I can't handle the silver and baby blue.

After all that work, of course I will. Thanks for your interest. I didn't think I was the only guy that likes custom painted Reno racers. I prefer them to the military schemes.

Great thread! Enough info to make my head blow. Not to take away from the .60 size Mustang dialog, but I know lots of you guys also fly the World Models .40's at the basin. I'm about to pull the trigger on ordering one of these smaller racers and wanted to know what powerplant to drop in. I've seen the YS 1.10's in these and I know they are ballistic. That may be a little more than I am looking for though. I'd love to be in the 100 mph range but I think the 1.10 is rip the wings off fast!

Taildragger, Rare-Bear...

How would the Saito .82, Saito 1.00 and the YS .63 compare in the smaller World Models Stang? Any opinions since you guys have so much experience with these planes?

By the way WM also offers Park Flyers versions of bigger planes: Cap 232, Mustang Voodoo, etc. They're light yet very strong balsa-based kits, very much like their bigger brothers. They don't cost much (about 95$ - Outrunner motor INCLUDED!) and they're a ball to fly. I currently use the EP Cap 232 and it's a real joy.

"I'd love to be in the 100 mph range but I think the 1.10 is rip the wings off fast!"

nope.

it's a proven design combo. the 110 won't rip the wing off.

remember, you can always throttle back and this way, you have room to grow in terms of speed.

once ya do 130mph and get used to it after 3-4 flights, it's like no big deal.

Would the YS.63 even be worth putting in the smaller mustang or will I be begging for more power? I read some other thread that said the plane still performs with the .63 and with the 1.10 the speed is amazing but the plane gets heavy and difficult to land. Would there be any issues with ground clearance and prop strikes with the bigger YS as well? Not to mention the old "speed costs" addage. The .63 saves me a few bucks too!

yeah, the 63 will save ya about $100 or so.

"I read some other thread that said the plane still performs with the .63 and with the 1.10 the speed is amazing but the plane gets heavy and difficult to land. "

not true. it's ez to land, provided you have the c.of.g. set up correctly

"Would there be any issues with ground clearance and prop strikes with the bigger YS as well?"

we use apc 13x10's and there is no issue
