Question for all you guys flying these 60 or smaller size birds with the YS110. What servos are you using? I've got a new YS110 which will probably land in a Little Toni or The Petie from this thread. I'm thinking high torque digi's are the way to go with the speeds this combo should see? I'm leaning towards the Futaba 3152's. Any thoughts or suggestions...I apoligize if this info is already buried in this thread somewhere.

I'm a big fan of Hitec digitals over any of the others. Compare costs on similar servos and I have found that Hitec is about half of what a comparable Futaba servo costs.....

I figure digi's would hold center better at the higher speeds of these planes. Which Hitecs do you use Dave? Are you using a 5 cell pack as well?

HS5645 servos and a 5 cell pack should be more than fine.

Hi All,
Can some one please put me onto a hobby shop who has the Petie 2nd decals in stock and would post them to Australia? I have been waiting 7 months to get them locally. Hopeless here. I get things so much faster from Overseas.

Any contacts will be much appreciated.

Cheers
CJ

Anyone planning to use pneumatic retract system on this plane and if you are, which system or manufacture are you using?

That would work....

The 14x12 was my standard prop for the YS140 which turned it at about 10,2000-10,300 with 30% nitro.

For the YS110, I ran an APC 13x13N in the mid 10,000's.

For our smaller 40 sized warbirds with a 110, we run APC 13x10's and turn about 11,400-11,700 or so.

With a constant pitch, the RPM's translate into speed as the prop is like an airfoil corkscrew.... and it takes horsepower & torque to get the RPM's.... but as you gain airspeed, the aerodynamic resistance increases by the 4'th power of airspeed or so - so eventually, you hit a wall and just can't go any faster (that, coupled with prop stall)

Also, when you get above 10,200 RPM's, the sound of the 110 really comes alive (if you have it straight-piped)

5 cell packs:

make sure they do not cause your receiver to malfunction.

when you first charge batteries, they carry maximum voltage (so a 5 cell may put out 7 volts initially)

if the receiver does not have a built-in voltage regulator, the extra voltage may cause problems - as it has done with my hitek receivers.

in summary, i once hooked up a fully charged 5 cell pack to my receiver and the landing gear would go whacko when i pulled on the elevator stick. i switched back to a 4 cell and everything was a-ok.

so..... test it out first with a FULLY CHARGED pack before taking it up to the sky.

i only use 4-cell packs. the electronic parts inside most receivers are 3.3 volt parts anyways. a fully charged 4-cell pack starts out at 5.5 volts or so... and rarely, do i take it much below 4.3 volts. they are rated at 4.8 volts.... so it's not like the receiver is going to ever see under-voltage conditions (unless the power switch fails - hehehe)

5 cells will give you more torque and a faster reponse time with the trade off being a faster discharge. If the servos you're using have adequate specs at 4.8v might as well use a 4 cell pack?
