I have always been very happy with the Saito 1.20 in mine. Only problem with the 1.80 is that it requires even more fuel than the 1.20
Go back to the first couple of pages and you can see how I mounted the larger fuel tank. I get about a 10 minute flight at full throttle for the entire run with another couple minutes to slow down, set up, and land.
Give it a try and let us know how it works.

Dave

Where is the cheapest place to buy a WM P-51? Some places were mentioned earlier in this post, but those were posted back in 2005. Is there a place in the MD, VA, DC area where they sell them?

After almost 2 years coolin its heels in the box my Mustang is RTF... Its all electric..

Motor: AXI 4130/16
Main Batt Pack: Dynam 4400 mah 6S2P 22.2v 15C pack ---> that mean 4 batteries to charge but i do have 2 sets of packs so i should get 4 - 6, 5 min flights in one session
ESC: Jeti 77 amp OPTO
Prop: APC 15 x 10 E
Rx Batt Pack: Futaba 1100mah NICAD. I thought of using the UBEC but gave up the idea.
Futaba 9 channel PCM Rx
Aileron Servos: HS 475HB
Elevator & Rudder Servo: HS 645MG
Flap Servo: GWS High Torque Servo
No Throttle Servo
Retracts: HS75BB

1/4" Aileron throws, 3/8" elevator throws with dual rates and 50% expo and Flaps set on left slider and 3 pos switch (10, 20 and 40 deg) on my 9 CAP . Any of you do the flap-elevator mixing? Is it required?

AUW is 9.3 lbs (approx 150 oz or 4.2 kg). wing loading approx 28 oz/sq ft

Power should be around 900 watts with the 15 x 10 currently installed as I didn’t want to push the system. I’ll upgrade to 16 x 10 in case I feel the need for more power. 100 watts per pound is what I should get with the 15 x 10.

All hardware is stock except for the 4-40 retract rods. And almost forgot to mention the poor pilot…gave him a complete makeover..haircut, clothes ..the works…almost felt sorry for the guy when I was working on him…hope he forgives n forgets when we take off on Sunday!!!

Some of the mods i did were as........

1. Retract bay epoxy bath!! Thinned 30min epoxy with denatured alcohol and flooded the area. I also did a 6mm ply reinforcement (see pic)
2. 4-40 control rods for retracts. Stock ones were bending so they had to go.
3. Cooling holes at fuse bottom and louvre on the bottom pod to allow air exit
4. Aluminum spinner
5. Hatch cut into the beautiful fuse to allow battery access on field
6. 3mm Lite ply Battery tray to hold main batt pack
7. CA'd every place i could get to.
8. Wheel spacers on retracts

BTW this kit had some Q issues. I found both ribs under the servo hatches broken. Also the silver covering is not upto the mark and glue missing in many areas...easily fixed them though.

My rx battery indicator starts flickering between red n green with i move the servos and comes back to full (green) then i stop. Either something is binding somewhere or my switch is old or my batt pack just cant supply the current required or m batt indicator is faulty. will work on that prob today.

Test flight is on for this Sunday and I’m getting the jitters… Let me know if I have missed anything…...

Cheers....

Hi,
Make sure you iron down the covering on the leading edge of the wings . On my 1st flight half of the covering came off one wing from the leading edge to the trailing edge causing a server trim change and almost causing me to crash. I was able to bring the plane down in one piece, but I ripped out my Robarts retracts on a bad landing. Since then I fixed the covering and retracts and all is well. The plane flys great and has no bad habits. But I don`t think I`ll buy a WS product again because Of the terrible covering job on mind For a 250.00 ARF I think WS can do better. Iown a H-9 Spit, And the covering job is great. The overall quaility in my opinion is much better.

Thanks Frank.. i'll run the iron over once more..... btw i've got my CG @ 4.5". Is that ok considering that i'll always be dry????

btw i have a H9 CAp 232 25% that i'm starting to build and the covernig job on that is ok..nothin to write home about....

The rx batt problem was due to an old switch. Haven't used a switch in 2 yrs coz i never used a seperate rx batt. Used an old switch which was a bad idea so replaced it with a new heavy duty one and all is OK now.......

Hi,
Yes the 4.5 is fine on the CG. One other thing I had to do, is put a 1/8 shim on the back of the retract because I would always nose over on taxing and landing. You will love the way this plane flys, and use the flaps for smooth landings. Let us know how things go.
Good Luck,
Frank

Thanks guys... Had a bit of a mishap even before i got out of the workshop!! Was doing the final balancing and my wing hit the ceiling fan while turning it over!!..bent 2 of the ceiling fans blades and chopped 5" from one wing tip clean off. Fortunately i fixed it and she looks like shez ready to go.....
