hi there hummingbird i think thats wise becayse if you dont what will happen could be fatal to your bird people may think wy let me tell you if the retract servo keeps stalling then its not getting to its start stop points witch in turn meens the battrey is still sending power to the servo witch can the run it down leading to no power to the rest of your servoes then you wont have to worry about the retracts because youll have no bird to worrie about or even worse one of your buddies at the field may cop it not good so im going to follow suite

dremel is right on the money on this, you want the mechanical linkages as close to perfectly adjusted as possible. Use your mechanical adjustments first then you can use the end points of your transmitter for ultra fine adjustments. If you are hearing a servo growling/buzzing/humming, whatever one might call it, you are hearing it suck the life from your battery at a very fast rate. The opportunity for your plane to fly uncontrolled just gets that much closer. Good Luck!

Amen, Brother.

Someone suggested using a separate battery for the retracts. Anyone heard of that before, and what do you think?

wot?
a seperate power supply for the retracts?
2 servos for the retracts?

sounds like a band-aid approach to me.
best to get the gear working properly in the first place, but that's just my opinion.

I used 2 retract servo's (2 x GWS136) because I added Robart oleos and scale wheels to the original retracts, which was too much for 1 servo to handle.

I agree with Rarebear, if your retracts are not working properly on 1 servo, you have a problem, find the problem and fix it.
Mine worked fine without any incidents with 1 servo.
Adding another battery to power the retracts is a complete waste of time and does not solve the problem.

Check that the Z bend connector, at the retract end, is not snagging on the framework you can turn the plastic fitting or file the wood to make it work smooth.

Or remove the retract and check that the unit works smoothly on the bench, its much easier finding the problem that way.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Paul

Roger that Dremelboy, in that case add the extra servo to handle the extra load.
This is an easy refit if you position the additional servo in exactly the same location on the other wing, as the cutouts are already in the ribs to accept the servo rails. Check my post 891 for pics.
I still only use 1 battery pack so a 2nd pack is not required unless you need extra peace of mind.
Hope this helps
Paul

I agree, RB -

I think that dedicated retract batt was someone's workaround to solve the DX7 brownout issues. The DX7 receiver takes two seconds to reset, and some guys focused on the retracts and servo as the potential cause for a high load condition.

But I don't think that is a solution for gear related problems.

Still flyin' the Bearcat, RB? Bill

Hi Kenbill
see my post 895 for the details.

Have to modify the retract body so the strut will close ( I just used my dremel) you will notice a small piece of brass plate in the retract which was glued with CA to remove the slop.
Remove the wheel well lining (where the strut sits) as per the pics and relace with some balsa to finish off.

I used the original wire leg as per the Robart instructions. works great.

Hope this helps
Cheers
