alright, ran motor tonight, checked direction of control surfaces, and balanced it by moving battery back. I kinda wish I had my gas tank closer to the CofG like Taildraggerdave. Is everyone doing alright with the stock tank in the stock position? I guess the plane will balance right after ten minutes of flight when it matters.

Roroman, I think you're talking about the canopy and it should be available online.

Guy's, I am finally getting around to building my WM Petie Mustang and I have a couple of questions for you guys. I really like the plane they did a good job. But in the new Fly RC they reviewed the plane and the writer said on his first landing on the maiden flight he made small bounce and the right retract mount came completely out of wing including the retract, has anyone had any problems? I had planned to replace the retracts with Robarts or Springs airs but if I can make them work I will. I do know to strengthen the retract plates with epoxy and some triangle stock and some glass cloth I dont want my retract falling out
On the retracts if I can use a normal size retract servo I can get a proportional retract servo and my radio can set end points on the servo and it still shuts off so that it doesnt drain the RX battery

Also I decided to go with a 120 four stroke instead a 91 surpass. Any suggestions on what you guys are using I am thinking about 120 Surpass w/ Pump? About the same price as the YS 110 I think but not sure. I have a couple of new 91FS but the plane looks big for a 91 and from what I read in the short review in Fly RC its was not a barn burner with a Magnum 91 FS so I think a 120 .
Thanks Guys
Viper

on the retracts, I epoxy'd the hell out of the entire area and then epoxy'd them again! If they rip out I will need a new wing and a few days at "how to land" school. I think the review bird was bone stock with the retracts just screwed in with no "beafing" up.

I used a Hitec retract servo and it operates and goes lock to lock very nicely. Our runway is as smooth as a baby's ass and almost always has a 5mph head wind. I am not too worried about the retracts.

I have a saito 120 in mine and the cowl fits over it just fine. Honestly, as light as this thing is I cant believe it isnt fast with a .91 in it.

I'm not shy or scared and I am taking mine up for the first time this weekend. I will trim it out and fly it slow for a while, but then open it up and bank&yank the crap out of it. If there are any flaws in this plane's airframe I will find them by Sunday afternoon.

Lownloud, I like your attitude. I have about 16 flights on mine and still a little timid about "banking and yanking the crap out of it" It doen't need anywhere near the recommended control throws. Expecially on the ailerons. I like scale flight for this bird.

I have the same retract servo. Hitec 75BB. Works fine and also epoxied inside the retract area.

My YS 110 makes mine really move out.

I now have several flights on mine after buying a new wing. On only the second or third flight, I don't rightly remember which, I got the landing wrong and it ripped the retract and half of the guts out of the wing. I got a new wing from AB and epoxied it good all around the mount area and it has survived some of my not-so-good landings. I am flying with a Magnum 91 running a 14x6 Master and it is great. I set the control throws to 50% the recommended, with a lower dual rate setting and 25% expo and it handles great. With the 40 degree flap extension (physical limit of travel) you can grease the landings. I am using the standard tank and have increased the timer on my radio from 10 to 12 minutes and I still have fuel left, and the tank is in the normal position. It balanced on the money with the battery mounted in front of the tail servos with no added weight, but I am not using the supplied spinner. I replaced it with a Tru-Turn and painted it to match the blue nose. It is becoming a favorite with me, to the detriment of my other warbirds !!!

Bbus, can you tell me what kind of paint you used for your spinner and where did you buy it from please I want to paint my aluminum spinner as well. So the 120 four stroke of choice seems to be the Saito 120. I have a new Saito 91 thats going into another plane but it sure looks great.
Well looks like the Saito 120 and YS 110 are about the same price give or take a couple of bucks. And the pumped OS 120 is about 40 bucks more. I was going to install my new Pumped OS 91 Surpass II in Petie 2 but Its going into my rare original Dago Red with a Slimline inverted pitts muffler so I cant use it and if I am buying a new four stroke its going to be 120 as I dont have one.
Thanks Viper

Viper, I have painted several of my tru-turn spinners and I always use the same method. Ultracote primer and then spray with Ultracote of the appropraite color. The spinner did come out a little darker than the fuselage but not to any detriment. This is a great aircraft to fly, good looking and handles very well.

bbus, do you happen to know which color you used and I will need to order from Quantum Hobbies tomorrow. I see that your running a 91
Magnum 4 stroke, how does the plane fly do you have plenty of power. Because I have a choice of three 91 four strokes two OS Surpass one is a pumper the other is not and the last is a Saito 91 but I already have a home for the Saito. And the pumper Is going in my original EZ Dago Red. I also have a Slimline inverted pitts muffler for the 91 and Mustang. I read some of the other posts and I was going to buy a 120 but I would rather put the money in retracts.
Thanks Much on the paint tip I would appreciate the color also.

Guy's , what can I say. FANTASTIC THREAD. Just read from start to finish. I am a newbie and just got my first low wing trainer. So I am a long long way from your standards of skill and knowlage, but boy. DO I WANT ONE OF THESE. I am in China right now, so WM ARF's and Siato engines are very good value. I have got to get me one of these for a future project. Please keep the thread going.

BTW, some pic's of the small changes you all made would be nice if poss.

Dave

Viper, the color I used was Ultracote Deep Blue, spayed over grey primer. It is a little darker than the fuselage finish but many of my flying buddies have said I ought to spray over the rest as the deep blue is a truer color for a blue nose than the standard finish. The Magnum 91 gives me all the power that I need, it will pull a large loop and does scale strafing runs. The standard tank gives me good duration, as I said in my previous answer I had the timer on my radio set to 10 minutes but have increased it to 12 and can probably go to more without running the risk of a dead stick.

Thanks much BBus, I will get some paint for the spinner do you know if its water base paint because they advertise it as being non toxic? Can you use your starter on it when its cured? I have a couple of planes need some type parts that need painting.

I am keeping the stock retracts and can someone tell me if you pretty much need a low profile retract servo? Because If I can fit a full size retract servo I can get an Airtronics proportional retract servo that allows me to program the travel needed and then it will shut off so if I only need 90 degrees of travel I can program it for that and its about 110 oz I believe. If not I will get the low profile and go through all you guys did mechanicaly its not too bad after 4 or 5 planes and you get it down I just wanted try out this new trick. I am going to do all the strengthening to the retract plate I will get some triangle stock and fiberglass and slow cure epoxy after I CA the rails themselves. Because I am going to install Robo Struts.

OKAY, I need your guys h
