For those who have a Saito 120 in there P51's. I having a tough time getting my stock spinner to fit on mine. Am I doing something wrong? The little brass flange that goes inserted in the back plate is too small to fit over the crankshaft. Please advise.

Take a reamer and ream out the brass bushing until it just fits over the crankshaft. You could probably drill it also but be careful about making the hole too big. I used the stock spinner for quite a while. It works well.

Dave and Cruz, just a regular stock prop reamer will open the brass bushing just fine?
I have my retracts and Robo Struts ordered and they should come in next week Monday or Tuesday so I can install them I will shoot some pictures of the install I even ordered the 3.5" Robart wheels hopefully I wont need to do allot of cutting but I bought a roll of silver Ultracote incase I needed to cut up some of the wing.

I use a tapered reamer that continually gets larger in diameter, not a conventional 3 step prop reamer. What you will end up with is a brass bushing with a "V" in it. I ream it equally from both sides. When you bolt it down behind a prop it is not going to go anywhere---some say the entire length of the of the hole has to be the same diameter, but I don't think it is really that big of a deal...now on my props I like to have a consistant diameter on the mounting hole.....

here's what's left to do on my plane:

hook up the remote glow driver
connect the engine fuel filters/check valve
install the pilot figures
install canopy
bottom air scoop & wing strap
install wing & check fit
route receiver antenna
position & mount batterey as CG get's checked

that's about it
oh yeah, put on the decals

this is an excellent kit & my first world models kit. i'm impressed with the quality and ease of construction. the only mods i did were to beef up the firewall joints, move the fuel tank to the CG, and reinforce the landing gear with eopxy & fiberglass. i may exchange out the landing gear pushrods for 4-40 rods & ball joints but that is TBD.

i think my next kit will be the new world models 60 sized extra. edwin just got some in and they look awesome.

Dave, I have never seen a non stepped prop reamer where do I get a tapered reamer I just have the stepped type. If I understand you correctly your saying that both sides of the reamed hole come to a "V" wont the spinner backplate wobble on the prop shaft? I have always used a regular 4 step Fox prop reamer and have never had a problem am I missing something with reaming the backplates and props all mine have the holes the same diameter the entire cut in the backplate or prop?
Thanks Dave

Your reply is indicative of what most people think......how can the backplate wobble when it is securely clamped between the engine thrust washer, the prop, the washer, and the 2 nuts to tighten the whole mess down?????? The smallest diameter is in the center of the backplate and that is supposed to be an exact fit over the crankshaft. The reamer can be purchased at most any hardware store. I believe it is for dressing pipe.

Dave, I think I understand by using a stepless reamer the hole is round all the way through? I will look for the stepless reamer at Home Depot in the plumbing Department. One question how do you know not go to far if there are steps on the reamer like my Fox Reamer has?
Thanks Viper

PS: I made a trade for a new rebuilt YS 140 It was rebuilt by YS and they replaced the piston and liner, new bearings, new pump diaphram and more I have the receipt and all the old parts. YS said they adjusted the punp and they set the low end needle. So now I need a plane for it? I wonder if H9 is going to bring out a 150 size Miss America Mustang. It should pull the Mustang around pretty well

What about the jam nut or the nut that the spinner screw mounts to the crankshaft? It didn't fit on the crankshaft either?

You'll have to go buy an adapter kit from Tru-turn or Dave Brown. Comes with a new washer and an extension piece that has 10mm threads for the crankshaft and 10-32 threads (I think) for the spinner end. Then, you need to find the correct allen head screw for that. I used a normal phillips head screw and it sat on top of the spinner. The allen head screw would be recessed and look better.....

Dave, I have a theory about how your elevator control horn fractured... read on...

Today, I got my Mustang all put together and just sort of laid the radio and battery in position but didn't worry about routing the antenna and fixing the location of the battery pack just yet because I only went to the field to break in my new engine. All well and done.

What I did notice was that because I did not use the anti-vibration mount fixture (or any other kind of anti-vibe engine mount), i saw a huge resonance buildup around the engine midrange (somewhere between 3000-5000 rpm's) which made the elevator resonate around 30 Hz or so with roughly 1/2 inch peak to peak excursion. At idle and full engine speed, the resonance diminished but I took not of the mid-range resonance. This is all quite natural because everything exhibits resonance modes.

Well anyway, when I finished up engine break-in, i took apart the plane to pack up and i noticed that the screw that holds the elevator servo control arm had worked loose. The screws that hold on the air scoop alsp worked loose but I'd expect those to. Not the elevator servo however as the control arm screw had a lock washer on it as well.

This made me start to think that the elevator resonance simply travels back through the pushrod and the servo takes a direct hit with vibration. Not good - as this can lead to servo gear stripping with time.

This could also be the source of your control horn failure Dave. Who knows. How many flights do you have on your bird anyways when you noticed the control horn crack?

Well anyway, I think I will spend a little extra time before a maiden voyage and install an anti-vibe engine mount that Gator RC sells. I have one on my Staudacher powered by a YS110 and it works extremely well.

I'd rather be safe than sorry

By the way, I ditched the factory furbished pilot figure and went with sponge bob as the captain with patrick up against the rear of the cockpit looking like he's ready to puke - hehehehehehe

RB, I am mounting my new OS 120 on the stock anti vibration mount in my Mustang I don't how the Gator RC mounts work but I will try the stock mount. Was there a reason that you didnt use the stock antivibration mount in the kit? I know its of the same type as the mounts that World Models uses in their pattern kit so I would think it should hold up well enough to a 120? I will try it out and let you know how is works I am waiting for my Robart retracts and Struts to come in. I need my muffler yet. I am looking forward to flying mine.
Now I wish Hangar 9 would bring out a 150 size Miss America Mustang. I have YS 140 jut waiting for one

I was just copying a few other folks who built it stock without the anti-vibe mounts and have been flying it awhile. No big deal to remove the engine and mount and retro to a Gator. For reference, here is a link:

http://www.gatorrc.com/

click on 'soften-safe .40-.91 mount' or 'soften-safe 120/140' under 'gator accessories'

post edit:
i just returned from the bedroom to take a 2'cd look at the supplied anti-vibe kit. i think it's worth a try over going with a gator type mount. after all, it conforms to my laziness as i don't have to drill new mounting holes in the firewall. i'll give it a shot and see how well it dampens. the screws that clamp the engine seem sort of small.
