I have many reasons to disagree with any statement re: the Falcon not being a good 3D heli. I have both a Raven 50 and a Falcon SEV2 - IMHO, they both are great 3D machines (but I will give the edge to the Raven). And other then their great 3D flight, I really like their reliability, dependability precision and quality. Contrary to what Colin said, the Falcon SEV2 is NOT " just a 50 size Hawk". That would be like saying the Dodge Stealth is just a bigger Neon.

About the only thing they have in common is that they use a similar collective arm system (even that is not the same as the Falcon is fully ball raced). The same super strong upper frame set, the same very reliable two stage power system (different gear ratio), similar bullet proof clutch system (the Falcon has a machined metal clutch bell) and the same very dependable start system. Other then the minor collective to elevator (fore/aft) interaction present in the Hawk/Falcon's collective arm system (so minor that most would not even realize it is there!!) All these other similar systems are those that anyone would want in any helicopter! The other systems of import on the Falcon are very different from the swashplate up and the back of the mainframe to the tip of the tail rotor!

Most of us who have been flying for a good number of years and have flown most everything out there, know that there is a lot more to a heli then a collective system that may have some rather minor elevator to collective interaction at extreme collective ranges.

There are so many other items on the same heli that are exceptionaly good and well designed. (These were all pointed out in the review of the first production version of the Falcon SEV2 that Colin informs us his father wrote. I believe it appeared in Model Helicopter World over three years ago) It has a great rotor head that is very good at controlling flutter prone blades...much better at this then are the rotor heads of two other popular helis that have been released since then. A clutch system that has always been one of the most reliable to ever come into the R/C heli world. A tail rotor system that is torque tube driven and that has a triple bearing tail rotor with the reliability and precision of many very expensive 60/90 size competitors, a nice and tight metal swashplate etc. etc. etc.

The question that begs to be asked is why someone with a signature showing sponsorship by Canada's Thunder Tiger Distributor (Hi-Flight) has to enter such a thread as this and summarily dismiss the Falcon?

Thankfully it is just one-man's opinion and so is mine. Take them for what you will.

rotordoc, you're right, the century stuff is perfectly reliable...but what kind of 3D are you doing with yours? I couldn't get ours to do backwards rolls, tail slides, kaos, pin wheels, rippers etc...and did have a problem with funny rolling, but got that sorted out .... anything that required good tail power it would not do! I'm not talking mild loops, rolls and flips here....because it would do all of that fine and smooth! It's just when you got into the more demanding stuff where it seemed to lack. You're also right about the falcon being fully ball raced and using a better head....which I pointed out, it is a better machine then the hawk, but not by far. The hawk and the falcon do use the same control system...one has bearings which doesn't change much.

You're right, some people will think..."pfft he just wants to sell the raptor", but this is not the case, I will not lie to anyone about any of the products that any of my sponsors make or carry. I also Don't lie about other helis and products that I have experience with...I try to keep an open mind and tell the truth BTW you're right in saying that the falcon has a great clutch system....haven't found a way to adapt that to my raptor yet....maybe one day It also has a TT which is nice, but I prefer the belt, the head does is not one that is known to flutter, but also is not designed as good as a raptor for 3D. The falcon and raptor IMO are both designed for different things, the falcon feels a little more "expensive" in a hover with the stock head setup and paddles (because of the bell/hiller mixing ratio, and weight of the model) All in all I prefer the raptor, both are good machines, just look at what you wan't to do in the future, scale or 3D, this should depend on which heli you get. I would say that the raptor is more of a wild machine while the falcon is good for scale and sport flying.
