I'd like to do some flames too but I suck at masking and don't know any other way to do it.

try drawing the flames on the outside of the body first with a Sharpie marker (ONLY IF THERE IS A PROTECTIVE COVERING) if you mess up, the wipe it off with water, and A rag.
when you are satisfied with the flames outline, then you can do one of two things.
1) try and follow the flames with masking tape (hard to do, and usually does not do well with curves)
2) mask the entire inside (tape, or liquid mask), and cut with a NEW razor what you want done. (cut the flames out) just donut cut to deep, you will wind up weakening the body, and it will crack on a heavier impact.
there is always a 3rd choice.... have someone do it for you. (like me)

anyways, let me know how it turns out.

P.S. as for the drawing the actual flames..... try to print something off of the internet to trace. or find a friend that can draw them on for you. ( i think this is more what you were looking for, as far as your question goes. )

it took me a good year or so to master drawing flames.

the paint job is cool but the body doesnt really look like a viper, its too short and tall.

There are no stickers on the body above, it's all paint. But there is quite a bit of masking involved.

this is how im currently doing my flame job

1. get a sheet of A4 paper or similar, and cover in masking tape, making sure it stays as thin as possible

2. put it into your printer tray

3. find a design like the 1 above, and make it the right size

4. if youve got any printer above bog standard, you should be able to choose the paper type. Choose something like matte heavyweight

5. print out, and cut out flame

6. theres your mask. Just put it on the body like you would with window masks, then once youve done the main colour, just take it off and paint it any colour U wanna

I would suggest you find a local decal/vinyl shop and have the die cut you some flames. Ask them not to weed them out. What I mean is usually you would want the flame decal to put on the outside of the body. Therefore usually, you would delete the surrounding part of the vinyl. Instead, since you want flames inside, you will remove the surrounding portion of the flame and stick it inside the body. This is your template to fill in with paint. Use the other part of the decal for other times to paint around, etc.

Snort, you've got the concept of masking backwards.. You put the flames on, just as you want them to be in the end, spray the background color, then peel the flame mask off and spray the flames in. Then you back it all in black or white. Doing it your way is going to be a tedious nightmare that's never going to give sexy results.
