Then we join the sides together and put the 1/4 square along the bottom of the fus and put all the formers on.[image][/image]

We then need to make sure all is square and tight
[image][/image]

We need to make sure there is clearence for the double F9 tailwheel support. I trimmed the 1/4 balsa for a perfect mechanicle joint.[image][/image]

and just drop the other side on

How do I get hold of CA models here in the U.K? I'm in Hinckley. I want to order a Fantasy, an eclipse (maybe 2) and eventually a 38% Extra.

Please let me know.

Nearly got a box now

Tip the fus over ( Trying not to let it all fall apart doh!) and place the top rear on followed by the top front and tape all together firmly. I then turned it back over and taped the bottem up tight so nothing could move

Place fus on line drawn on workbench an line up all the little marks in the bottom of the formers to ensure you have a perfectly sqare fus (Nice thinking CA models first time I have seen this idea and I have built between 30 and 40 models in my time!!)

And the fun bit begins squirt cyno everywhere wood touches wood and its all together!

Then we stick F1 on with epoxy and the front turtle deck again with epoxy.....measure back and epoxy the rear turtle deck on....hey presto starting to look like a plane all ready!!

Club boy

Easy just send him mail (info@camodel.com.ar) asking him what you would like and he will mail you back....I must they have been very very helpful throughout and with the exchange rtae as it is at the moment a briliant time to buy.

I would however think seriously if you want more than one plane and get them to send them all at once might keep the postage down....$80 OUCH

By the way I live in Rugby so not far from you...where do you fly??

I fly at Burbage model aircraft club. Perhaps when you have the Epsilon finshed I can pop over and see you fly it?

Ok fus about done we'll start the wings now.

First off fit the leading edges to both panels and the wing tips when dry sand flush at the root

Next ensure the wing roots join perfectly with a 4mm diheadrel....all I did was to use a thin piece of spruce that was 4mm thick with the wing top down and sanded the root square.

Repeat on other wing. Take the ply diheadrel brace and ensure this fits tight and allows for the 4mm diheadrel. test measure test check look test look....right happy with that

Next is to glue the brace in one wing half and let it cure. then glue the two wing halfs together having marked where the aileron servo leads will emerge at the centre and leave to set weighed down so it cant move!

Come back the next day and Put the fibreglass tape on with epoxy and leave to cure....if you look closely you can see where have painted epoxy further out into the wing...this spreads the load at the joint next to the tape and strengthens the wing substantialy.

Mmmmm nearly got a wing now!! just make the aileron servo boxes and cut out
the ailerons face and tip all parts and presto a wing complete.

When facing the ailerons and the wing where you have cut out take care to
get the point of the balsa section central as this will affect both where
the aileron sits on the centre line as well as the way it hinges.

I've only ever worked with a foam wing once, and it was the cut outs that put me off getting any more. So how do you get such nice cut outs? Or do they come ready cut?

Thanks

All I use is a new scalpel with a new blade .. the trick that I have found for cutting foam is to use little preasure but be firm and bold
In other words severel small cuts don't try and cut through in one go and be bold and cut the line you need don't cut close and then nibble away else the foam just bobbles up and you end up with a right snowy mess

Another trick I have used in the past is to bend a piece of wire to the size and shape of the hole required (Just bend it around the servo) and then stuck the wire in the soldering iron to melt the foam ... can be a bit vague unless you have a steady hand though

Sorry guys had a bit of a scare with the new family addition so the build had been put on hold for a while.

Any way scare over now so I can start again in earnest .... come to think of it all I need to do is stick the tailplane in play with the canopy / cowl and then I can start covering ....don't you just love this light ply and balsa foam building soooooo quick!

I'll post some more piccies when I get the camera back off the inlaws

That looks superb. Looks like a good candidate for a cheap 80 quid ASP 91s, or a nice saito.....or the new RCV 91CD

I have a Saito 100, which will need a new home. It is either the epsilon or the GP extra 300 60. Will decide in the summer. If I go for the epsilon, I'll probably try to get the 24% extra from CA as well.

One question. Trying to determin from the photos whether there is room for the tank on the CoG. Any thoughts?

Cheers

If weston start importing it'll be awsome for us brits as CA do do some amazing value models....if you work it out you can get a fantasy for between £400 to £500 pounds and that is alot of plane for you money

Sprink I can take picces of any part at you request as I wont have a chance to cover it for a while but as for room for a tank on CoG easy I rekon you could get a 20oz tank in!!
If you look at the side on pic you will see that the base of the cockpit is built up giving you tons of space

Luke funny you mention the ASP that is exactly what I have gone for....I do have an OS as back up though IF the asp turns out pants
But looking at it I rekon it'll be spot on ..... I think I'll bench run it in soon so I'll let you all know

Can you take a picture of the firewall? I am working on my Epsilon right now and I don´t understand what parts are used to locate and screw the cowl to the fuselage. The F1 former didn't have any marks to center the engine mount. Where did you center it (e.g. relative to the sides and the top)?

Took me while to work that out too... I will Measure the firewall centre asap and post piccy at the same time but....the cowl frame is glued to the front of F1 and then I glued some small blocks of hardwood backed with balsa triangle , you will have to sand the frame a little to get it perfect and the cowl fits over the top. Basicaly this gives support all the way around the edge of the cowl and you then screw into the hardwood blocks....pictures will make clearer as soonas I can post I will.

To centre the engine mount I first cut the prop driver hole out of the cow and the cyno'ed the engine as near as I thought looked right for length and then basically mounted the prop and spinner and kept taking it all apart and moving everything until I was totally happy with the position.from there you can mark the engine bolt centres and engine mount centres and bolt it all up...again pictures will help and I will measure my centre....but be careful as every cowl will be slightly different again picces will help as soon as poss

Right got piccies

First pic is of a 20oz dubro tank (thats for another project that I shall reveal all later! ) in the middle of the wing seat so with a bit of hacking you should get any tank in.

Second and third shot is of cowl mounting and you can just see how thin the cowl is about 0.5 mm as can be seen by the close ness of the frame to the edge of the plane you can also see where I have backed up with triangle on the thicker piece of ply.
