Well, the reconstructed RCM 40 did fine.

Would you believe 30 minutes on one tank of fuel? Not a lot of high speed, of course. Love the Magnum XLS 40 engine.

Bill.

Hey AJ, is that Rube, as in Goldberg?

Seriously, I really like your little Scooter; I think unusual airplanes are really neat. I've done several pusher designs and was always amazed that the engines ran very well with no overheating. The 2 with reed Cox engines did better after I installed a heat sink head from one of their little dune buggies and a steel Tee Dee washer behind the prop drive. The reedies were cool, didn't even have to buy a pusher prop!

I found this thread. Dunno if anyone will even read my response since its old. But, here's my photos of my Scooter that I built many years ago. Its still as good as new on my work shop ceiling. Finding this thread makes me want to fly her again! Cox TD .051. Flew great! Scratch built.

Wow, what a coincidence! I havent flown that plane in a few years. Only 4 days ago, I took it into my workshop and re-did the fuel tank. What was happening, was with the plastic tank so far below the engine/carb, if I set it up to run well at full throttle, when I would pull back to idle the engine would go lean and die (probably due to the now non existant pressure from the muffler).

I ended up making a custom fit brass sheet stock tank that actually fits into the wing's center section. I also lowered the engine down a bit so now the carb is in line with the middle of the tank.

I am away on holidays currently but when I get back next week I will test fly my Scooter with the new tank.

AJC
