i belive the motor is a power 800 motor but it came as a fitting kit with the gearbox prop tube and screw the combination makes for ample power and speed and duration

I'm also building one of these at the moment, bought it a few years ago but never got around to building it. I'm about to start painting and have some acrylic primer to start off, I'm assuming I would then also need acrylic paint for the top grey coat, for the detail would I also need acrylic or can i use Humbrol enamels, I have a few of these lying around from other models, but I'm not sure you can mix the different types of paint.

Also for the electrics, anyone know how to wire them up, tried searching but can't seem to find any info.

Thanks,

Keith

OK, my plan is to use a primer from Halfords which is a plastic filler primer, I should then be ok to use the Humbrol acrylic spray cans on top of this would I. Unfortunately I don't have a spray gun and am limited to cansand figured to get the colours I would need to use the humbrol ones?

Thanks,

Keith

If you look at the pics i used halfords filler primer on all parts first then grey primer for the hull with red oxide primer for under the waterline. The super structure was also grey primer from rattle can then flattend it with 1200 grit paper then just halfords satin laquer to achive the finish the deck is sprayed in rover hurrican greay again with satin laquer on top i have another gun boat pic i made last year using the same teq

thanks for that, never thought about just leaving the primer as the colour then covering with a clear coat

what did you do with the windows on the bridge, did you leave them clear, I assume I would have to mask them to do this, seams a bit fiddly. Alternative would be to just paint them in later.

Thanks,

Keith

Thanks again, will look to mask my windows, had a look in Halfords today, could only see one clear laquer but it wasn't satin, didn't have time to ask anyone, will try again, but saw the grey and the oxide one.

Did you wire up your lights in your build?

Keith

Hi me again,

Started to do some of the painting today, boy you think youve sanded it smooth, then that first bit of paint shows so many imperfections.

Managed to get some oxide and grey primer from halfords, they say they don't do a satin laquer, so there is only one a clear laquer, reading the instructions on it I get the impression that it will leave a gloss finish, if I were to use this could I use fine sandpaper to take the gloss off or should I look for some other make, not really sure what to do here for the best.

Thanks,

Keith

Ahh, I was thinking it was a Halfords own make, that makes sense, yeah I saw the plasti-kote stuff, I'll give that a try.

Thanks,

Keith

OK, so I've done my grey bits, hopefully some nice weather tomorrow and I'll get the oxide painting done, then I can laquer, couple more questions if I may.

The transfers, is it best to put these on before any laquer or after say one coat, I read somewhere that you can sometimes see the edges of the transfers, or because I'm putting on laquer anyway does it not matter, I noted you put your on before any laquer.

Also not really looking forward to doing the railings, any advice for those, especially the painting, did you construct yours on the boat itself or elsewhere, just worried that if you have to paint them on the boat then I'll get paint everwhere.

Thanks,

Keith

put transfers on before laquer or they will look shiny the railings were assembled on the boat and painted after i found them easy compared with my trent life boat . as for painting i painted my railings free hand just dont overload your brush

Thanks, I assume you used the same primer for the railings as the rest of the boat?  Just read your review for the lifeboat as it happens and yes the railings there look a bit daunting.

yes i used the same colour what i did was to spray some of the primer into an old pot as its primer its quite thick and paints on easy and dries really quick
