Hi all.
I wanted to know if anyone has used water based acrylic paints (cheap craft bottle paint) with a airbrush to paint there Warbird??
I`ve read and heard of guys airbrushing there Warbirds with water based latex paint and then clear coating it with top flite flat clear.
The water based acrylics are cheap and found in almost any color(the right colors for my German FW-190a).
Has anyone used this type of paint and airbrushed there Warbird with it??
Please post your input on this paint and airbrushing with it?
Thanks...

I used the acrylics from Walmart on a 40 size Gee Bee. Clearcoated with Black Barons clear and it came out quite nice. I used the cheapest brand they had, about .44 cents a bottle(2oz). I thinned it about 50% or so, and shot through a cheap airbrush. They covered well with about 3 coats to make it opaque on unpainted Super Coverite. i think I would use a different brand of clearcoat if I did another, as the B/B tends to yellow in the sun over time.

Boy, does it ever look nice!! Maybe the yellowing adds just the right 'period ambience'.

I've used these paints for several aircraft; a 1/8 scale scratch-built Spitfire and two Ace 1/2A Corsairs. It's easy to use, cleans up with water and no smell. I reduce it to about 1/2 water and 1/2 paint. If it's too thick it spits from the airbrush. I use a double action airbrush because I have better control with it. I used to clear coat it with satin polyurethane, but now I use water based polyurethane brushed on. You can use this to adhere fiberglass cloth as well.

Cheers!

I am in the trial stages of using the water acrylic from Walmart. I have tried several ratios of mix from water with a few drops of paint through about a 50/50 mix. Depends on what effect you need to what ratio to use. I just keep experimenting
