WooHoo! I'll be first in line for 3 sets (provided Sierra continues to drag his feet on his small sets)

David, I can tell you Spring Air will have rotating retracts later this year. Bill and I will R&D
the new sets in a couple months. They will be setup for oleo's which Spring Air also in now
carrying. We are going to be using them on the H9 Corsairs.

It's been 24 hours since I emailed CJM again, after he said to email him and still no response to where my order is that I purchased on 24 Feb.

Price is certainly good (compared to the yet-to-be-seen-by-anyone Sierras) as the unitracts include the plumbing.

Opinions on unitract?

What was the price he quoted you for the retracts.

If you buy direct it's $355.00 for the TF small Corsair set. I hope Bob Holman gets a good discount which he passes on to the customer!

I highly doubt Bob Holman has Unitracts retracts for the TF kits in stock. He usually carries retracts for the Brian Taylor plans, but last time I checked with him, he didn't even have those in stock.

Correct. said he had to get them from uk. I'd still like to hear from some users though at http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/User_Opinions_regarding_Unitract_Gear/m_1616840/tm.htm

The post that got everyone started on Sierra building a set of rotating retracts for the TF Corsair is exactly the same thing that happened to me! On a main wheel landing in short grass the struts rotated out-wards causing the plane to nose over! When that happened it was the 3rd flight on the gear one out of the 3 landings was on a paved runway! The pilot (not myself) has 30 yrs of flying and from what I understand it takes a good pilot to do wheel landings! So its not like the gear had any abnormal abuse apply to them, so what should I expect down the road? Also after the incident I toed in the wheel slightly hoping this might help on the next landing, although it looks terrible on the tarmac with the wheels toed in. Guess I being new to R/C flying 3 yrs now I won't ever be able to land my Corsair without incident.

sorry guys , very hapy with CJ , I had all Robart because of the so called experts and Top Gunners, Robart was crap and so was the customer servace . If i had isseus with CJ i contacted Bruce directly and they were fixed . As far as Tower Hobbies you were scamed . I said this before, read my lips "Tower " is by far the largest mail order distributor in the USA .They are the Walmart of the Hobby Industry , they put fear in local hobby shoppes. If the say deal directly with the manufactuer its because you let them get away with that type of support . WHo will have more clout with CJ , you a single unit consumer or Tower a major customer ? I purchased Robart from tower with the same prolem and guess what they begged me with ads for two years after I said i woudl never purchased again and i did not . I finally made a purchase when I started sending the competitive ads and got the prices I wanted on the products I wanted . With people like Hobby Lobby , and Hobby People Tower will now have to be a better competitior . Back to the gear , give Bruce a call he has always fixed my problems and been good to his word.

Tower Hobbies for me has been great as well as Central and Hobby Lobby!! never had one problem with them! As for my LHS even as a discounted member I get better help and service online! All my LHS is worried about is hiring young kids with no experiance in air planes and all they care about stocking is RC car stuff! So it goes both ways I won't say their name but they are a franchise.

Tower Hobbies is not the problem. CJM is the problem.

Tower never refused to take the gear back and if I gave that impression is was not my intention. On Towers website for CJM gear it says "CJM prefers to deal with warranty issues itself" so I tried in vain to get CJM to respond. I wanted to give them a chance to make good. They have not and so the gear is going back to Tower Hobbies for a refund. No scam.

Well guys these kinds of problems are why i ended up using spring air gear. i tried cjm and i tried the robart plastic frame gear. both gave me hassles. but since i have been using spring air the problems have been few and far between. for 60 size planes i use the 3/16 wires, or the 700 series with robart oleos. spring air gear are not unbendable or unbreakable- but they are clearly superior to the other two i mentioned. for larger planes i use the 400 series which to all intents and purposes are unbreakable, even by me .

i am a warbird pilot but i sure hate hassles- so i make every effort to eliminate them in my planes. so i use good retracts, and i use easy to adjust, reliable engines, and i use programmable radios that make the warbirds easier to fly and land. geez- seems like the more i do this kind of stuff the more fun this hobby gets. so in an effort to help others minimize hassles and have fun with their planes i suggest spring air retracts and super tiger 2 strokes, and because i haven't had a radio problem in 8 years with my futaba radios i recommend them too.

but i have never had a corsair- even though i think they are a great looking plane. every time i think about it i remember these kinds of posts and all the complaints about rotating retracts and i say to myself "well maybe not yet". but if spring air comes out with rotating corsair gear i may just get one of those hangar 9 corsair arfs. in the meantime i will stick to p51s, fw190s, p47s, spitfire, etc that use non-rotating retracts.

Well Guys,
I am building a TF p-47 and decided to install the CJ retracts. Sure are cheaper that Robarts! I even went so far as making the adjustments to the wing per TF's template. Well after reading all the flames against Century I would be stupid to put myself through this kind of hell.

Looks like I'll be researching other retract options!

I'm sure glad I read these threads before putting out my hard earns money for poor quality and very poor customer service!

Randy,

For the TF P-47, you won't go wrong with the Robart gear. IMO, the only bad design that Robart has is the 615 rotating retract for the TF Corsair. The rotating gear for the larger Corsairs, Hellcats and Warhawks works just fine. Go figure.
You live real close to the Robart plant, so customer service should never be a problem.

Just remember................. you get what you pay for!
