Ragwing, That is a Piper Cub J-3, modified for either a one or two-winged versions. Of course, the original Piper Cub J-3 was produced in St. Louis by McDonnel Douglas.

Major that is a Sopwith Pup, first produced in St. Louis by McDonnel Douglas.

Jmmbbo, your submission is a McDonnel Douglas DC-1 1926 built in St. Louis. Modified though from an old AT-6 Illinoisan.

Any other questions?

I think that last photo by Tomski is a Monocoupe. Probably the 90-115.

It's a monocoupe, and it might be a 115, but the 90 and 90A were radials.

Bill.

Yup and the Monocoupe 115, Lycoming 0-235 was AKA 90-AL

Bill your photo is not really a forties or fifties airplane. Its the Volpar conversion of the raised cabin beech 18H (last production model of the 18 in 1959) that was converted by Volpar in sixties. Volpar did trigear conversions of earlier Beech models with the twin tails as well as the single tail conversion and I think it was called the tradewind. But that name may have only applied to the trigear, single tail, turbine conversion they also produced.

Dammit, you're too good. I thought the single tail conversion would throw everybody way off. A lot of people don't even know whether the D-18 is a trike or tail dragger, so with the twin tail everybody would get it. Suppose I should have posted a picture of the Turbo powered version.

Bill.

So let's try this one. And it is from the pre-WW II period,

Bill.

Or you could have loaded the volpar cargo nose conversion. It's the long nose of the trike gear but on a tail dragger. Now the nose compartment was just the right length and size to hold 6 sets of golf clubs. Loaded lots and lots and lots of them the summers of 75 and 76 going from StL to the Lake of the Ozarks on two of them.

Okay.

There are a lot of people here who seem to know the older planes.

Here are two, one not really that rare, but the angle of view might make it a little harder. The other is a truly rare plane. Both of these were type certificated, but the monoplane was caught by WW II and never went into production.

Bill.

>>Edit: I see I have made the obscure one very easy to ID, I neglected to trim the caption. Oh well... wr.
