If you put your finger over the carb the engine dies. Is there another way to check for air leaks?

it's hard to tell....A high idle or missing means it might have an airleak....with the pico p2 I found it very hard to "seat" the carb properly....I held the motor with two hands (shaft towards me) and pushed down with my thumbs. During assembly I took off the head and put it back on.....tightened it down in a crossed shape way...sorta like a car tire to give even pressure. The back plate was checked....not taken off. just a little tighten on all 4 screws. Right now the only problem I have is leaking from the dust boot cover on the slide carb.....I'm not worried about that though...my position of the carb assembly was tilted the wrong way....gravity did it's thing.

I've been watching the back & forth on this thread I started, and it seems to me that your problems, Superbike, are with the CLUTCH, not the motor!!

Now I have no idea about all the different clutch/shoe options, but it sounds like once that problem is solved, you should have a great motor.

Do any of these motors come with clutches or recommend anything in particular? How did you choose the one you did, SBike?

FWIW, I was talking via e-mail with the UE tech guy, and he said I'd need to change my spur/clutchbell gearing for the .21s (he gave me teeth #s, but I deleted the note!!).

It sucks you're having problems, for you AND for me & others who are seriously considering these engines. Keep working on the clutch & let us know what happens.

Does this engine have an adjustable "mid range needle"?

Just got off the phone with werks......There might be a possibility of friction with the backplate bushing and the one-way bearing. If this is the case, Tuning may be finiky and a loss of low end acceleration might be noticed....NOTE: This will not damage the engine. If you bought the motor from werks racing, call them and they will send you a new backplate with a different bushing. They do not see the need to perform a recall because it is only the matter of swaping out the backplate....aka...easy fix. Werks made an order of backplates from overseas, they SHOULD be delivered to Werks in 4 days depending on shipping. This is only for the P2 motors.

I just talked to Werks a few hours ago. I explained my problem and they told me just to send them my motor and they take care of the problem whatever it may be. I also called OFNA today and the guys there told me pretty much the same thinkg Werks told GVFD29. Werks however told me that they had not heard of this problem with the P2 but they would check my engine out for me. As long as they will get it fixed I will be a happy camper because this engine screams on the top end it just has zero response down low.

It doesn't sound like a clutch problem to me. He said that the engine "bogs", it hangs at a low rpm for a few seconds before it takes of with tons of speed. If it were a clutch problem due to a worn out clutch, the engine would still have the ability to rev out, it just wouldn't be very quick. If it were a clutch problem due to a loose or broken spring, then the engine would be turning the wheels as soon as it was started, and it would stall the moment the wheels hit the ground.

His engine starts and runs fine, and the engine isn't over revving compared to the acceleration, so it does not sound like a clutch problem.

Again, does any one know if this engine has an adjustable mid range needle?

It's commming today or tommrow. Gotta put it on the computer now.....I take back my last statement on the slow part......MY ENGING IS PERFECT NOW..... The pipe was the problem with the entire thing. I was using the stock exhaust and it was a definate no no. i think the pipe I am using is a "TXS" or "THS" something like that....I have the box at home.
