I am running the stock clutch, gears and pipe.

THAT'S a problem...maybe THE problem.

The .21s rev a lot lower than the high-strung engines like the 2.5, Sirio & Fantom, but of course, they have loads more torque. So you really HAVE to change the gearing to bring them to the equivilent "power range" of the stock setup (the same "low-end torque vs. top speed" ratio). When we were talking via e-mail, the head guy at Unlimited Engineering (MonsterMaxx) TOLD me I'd need to change my gearing if I get this engine (alas, he even told me a few suggested gear setups, but I deleted the e-mail!!).

I'd imagine the clutch setup might need tweaking too, again due to the different RPMs of the engine types. And lastly, several .21 owners report that you really NEED a good pipe, the stock Maxx pipe doesn't really cut it.

So I'd definitely get a good tuned pipe, change gears, then see how the clutch performs. I think it's clear that you cannot just drop this engine in your truck & expect it to match the power/torque ranges of the stock setup, but when you DO set it up properly, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to get it to do WHATEVER you want (rule at the track, pop wheelies, win a tug-o-war, etc.).

Are you guys putting in .21 pipes? or aftermarket pipes made for the 2.5?

you should put on .21 pipes, unless you are using the big bore pipe. the rest are 2 restrictive.

I'm using the THS Racing pipe. The stock pipe is a problem...I was losing quite a few plugs and power. Strap on this sucker and away you go.

Superbike,
Ive had alot of the same trouble you are having with my P2 .21 Picco. Check your back plate, does it have a pressed in rubber seal, also check your crankshaft end play should be very little if it moves in and out very much it may be the same as mine. I took mine back to LHS they agree that there is a defect, mine was leaking fuel from front and back. It was untunable I could not get any low side throttle response then running at about 1/4 throttle it would go lean all of a sudden and flip on its lid.

one word, CLUTCH!!

if you cant get your bell clutch to GRAB then i dont care how much power you have and what gearing you have...it if wont grab then youll never see the "take off" power.
