I've just completed a sailplane ("Graduate" purchased from Hobby Lobby several years ago). It was intended to be an electric powered model but I just built it as a sailplane.

I don't know just where I should install the belly tow Hook. I guess just forward of the CG. Appreciate any advice.

The best tow hook location depends on a lot of things, especially how far below the wing that the tow hook is mounted. First adjust the CG for the most aft location that you can reliably control. Make sure the wings are balanced laterally and any twist is symmetrical from side to side. Then start with the tow hook a little ahead of the CG and trim the plane for the desired glide. Then add about 3 clicks of down elevator and move the tow hook back 1/8 inch. On each subsequent launch remove a click of down trim and observe the hands off launches until all the down trim has been removed. Keep repeating the cycle of down trim and moving the tow hook aft until the plane just starts to veer or wander on launch. If there is no down trim then the tow hook is adjusted. If there is down trim left, then move the tow hook forward 1/8 inch and restore normal elevator trim.

On my Paragon I was able to move the tow hook back about 7/8 of an inch from the spot shown on the plans. This adjustment improved the launch height a lot without risking an out of control launch.

The angle at which your craft goes UP on the hi-start or winch is related to where the hook is. Farther back(closer to CG)...gives steepest climb but is also most difficult to control!! For towin by another model....hook on NOSE will work!!!
Find your most comfortable spot...& have a ball.
