Just got back from the field and Im realy starting to dig this bird. Still could use little more power but after flying solid for a couple of hours I think the 46fx with macs pipe and 12x4 is a great combo. Just cant believe this is an ARF. Hats off to EXTREME FLIGHT. Im sure that Im goin to invest in the Webra 50 I think it will have the extra kick.

Got about 6 flights in on my EF edge now with a new OS 46AX / tower muffler combo APC 11.5x4 prop.
WOW what a fun plane! This is my 3rd plane, and I'm already hovering and doing waterfalls! goes where you point it, and stays there! My last flight today did some torqe rolls about 10' off the runway thats how confident I felt with the plane. Next flight or so, I'll lean out the low end so I can gun the throttle without it flooding, then it'll be a blast!!! I'm running it way rich, and it hovers around 1/2 throttle or less.

Anyone thinking about this plane, GET IT! I may order another one just in case I have a mishap.

Sorry this is off topic, but i love the 12.25x3.75 on my Webra 50. I am at 391' above sea level. When the engine was running right, i got 14100 on the high end, and instantaneus throttle transition.

JUST FINISHED MY EDGE AND WAS DOING A TEST RUN I NOTICED A HUMMING NOISE FROM THE PLANE VIBRATING! NOW I BALANCED MY PROP WITH THE TOP FLITE MAGNETIC BALANCER-I WONDER IF THIS IS A GOOD BALANCER? ANYWAYS THE PROP IS BALANCED AND I MY ENGINES CRANK TO SEEMS TO BE STRAIGHT. I THINK TONIGHT I'LL ROLL THE CRANK ON GLASS TO MAKE SURE ITS STRAIGHT! ANY OF YOU GUYS NOTICE THESE HUMS, I JUST MIGHT THINK ITS NORMAL!DONT KNOW

ALSO I HAVE A JR MICRO THR SERVO, AND SEEMS TO HAVE A MIND OF ITS OWN! EVEN WITH THE ENGINE OFF! NONE OF THE OTHER SERVOS OR FLIGHT CONTROLS ARE GLITCHING, I HAVE A HS-55 AND WONDERING IF I SHOULD INSTALL THAT OR BUY A MINI SERVO THAT THE MANUFACTURE RECEMENDS, I DONT KNOW

ANY HELP PLEASE!

That noise you hear is somewhat typical of profile airplanes with high output engines.

Yah Mine hummed and buzzed a bit too, now its a bit smoother that the engine is broken in better... Not much in the way of support for the engine on the front of these planse so it's gonna vibrate a bit... The OS 46AX / Tower muffler / APC 11.5x4 / cool power 15% combo is working out great!
My CG is at 1/4" back, gonna try to get it back to 1/2-3/4" and see how she flies there. TR's are pretty nice even at 1/4" CG.

I was worried that not getting a saito 72 for this bird was a mistake, but I'm VERY happy with the 46AX. I'm getting 18-20 min flights (3d stuff) on the aftermarket sulivan tank I put in (pics on the previous page)

Sometime mounting the prop 90 degrees from top-dead-center on the piston will help quiet one cylinder, 2 cycle (and 4 cycle) engines.

this plane flys great! and with my .46fx it hovers a half throttle with pletty to pull out of any bad situation. my pulls to the canopy in knife edge, but only very little! maybe adjusting the engines thrust line? i think if i do that i'll cause other problems.

I had a YS63 temporarily without a home and decided to order a profile. I hadn’t had one in a couple of years and was looking for something easy and quick to build and fun to fly. I've been flying the big stuff and decided it would be nice to get something with a little less stress factor, if you know what I mean. A few years ago I and a friend had two Morris Su-Do-Koi's and decided to try something different. I decided on the Extreme Flight Edge 540 Profile. I was not disappointed in my choice. The EF arrived Saturday and I started Sunday just before lunch. It was completely done, setup and ready to fly when I went to bed that night.

Here are some observations of the Extreme Flight Edge profile:

(1) The manual is marginal and not good for much more than a guide. It apears to assumes you know what you are doing. This would not be an ARF I think a first timer could easily finish without help. That being said: it is an easy ARF to put together. I put mine together practically without even looking at the instructions, it was that easy. Having a one piece wing is a major improvement and time saver.
(2) The quality of covering job and construction was flawless. Everything fit straight and perfectly. My CG came out at about a 1/2” with no adjustments. I used standard size digi's on the tail and a mini for throttle. The YS is all the way back. I actually notched the back of the engine slot to allow about 1/4” more rearward movement. I like the rear fuselage mounted servos much better than the old "pushrod and pull-pull methods.
(6) Lets get the nit-picking out of the way early. The kit came short two CA hinges. One of the vertical supports in the outside wing section was broken. The 1/2" piece is flopping around inside the wing and I will have to cut open the bottom covering to fix it. It was not shipping damage and was a clear QA issue not picked up on by EF before shipping. But it was not a big thing and will make no difference if I just leave it alone. I spent 10 minutes trying to get the backing off the strip of covering that covers the rear servo leads on the bottom of the plane before I realized there was no backing to peel off!!! That's it, everything else was perfect.

Things I really liked:
a. Pre-joined wing, pre-joined elevator and pre-installed vertical stabilizer.
c. Rear fuselage mounted servos for rudder and elevator.
d. Tunnel in bottom of fuselage for servo leads.
e. Throttle servo mounted just behind engine and inside fuselage.
f. Quality of covering.
g. Quality of construction: interlocking joints, ease of assembly, etc.
h. How all the servo holes, hinge slots, etc were perfect fits.

This is one great looking profile.

Personnel Preference things I changed from the instructions:
(1) I mounted a MPI combination on-off/charge switch to the hatch door on the battery side.
(2) When I am completely finished I may add tailfeather wires (Kevlar) to the back end for both strength and a sneaky way to move CG a little.
(3) I used the stock tailwheel. I wish I had used a Sullivan. May change it someday.
(4) Dubro fiberglass gear.
(5) Stock pushrod wires with horseshoe bend at the servo arm and Hayes clevis’.
(6) Replaced all screws on servos and hatches with sockethead servo screws.
(7) Controversial Change. I CA'd the wing and horizontal stab in. I've always wanted to try this method, so we will see if it works as others have said and tried. (PS: have a dozen flights with no problem)
(8) I did not use the wood blocks for the gas tank. I used 1/2" Foam and cut a hole for were the throttle servo sticks through. I also replaced the stock 6 oz tank with a 10 oz tank.

Notes: (1) I have read a couple of people had trouble with the aileron pushrods and having to put bends in them. I did not have this problem and needed no bends in the rods at all. I used horseshoe bends on the rods at the servo end and put the bend up. I did have to widen the inside of the pushrod slot about a 1/16”.

(2) I have also read that some people think the engine mounts are too weak. I have not experienced any problems with my YS63 and it puts out more stress than most. If you are uncomfortabloe with the thin looking mount just put a couple of pieces of hardwood on the backside of the mount to fill it in.

(3) I have also read about splitting the sheeting when pushing the servos through the fuselage. I did this on another model mfg's plane that had a tight fit. Didn't have the problem with the Edge. But depending on the servos you use, common since now says to put your finger on the backside and widen the hole slightly if you are using servos that fit to tight..

The EF Edge was one of the highest quality, superior design (strong, true & quick building) planes I’ve had the pleasure of assemblying. I have had about 5 different ARF/kit Profiles over the years from Morris Hobbies, Thunder Tiger and Ohio Model Planes. The Extreme Flight Edge Profile is the best of the lot.

My setup:

YS63
2.25" lightened TrueTurn spinner with TF 13x5 to 14x4 props.
Hitec 225 mini servo on throttle.
Hitec 5625 digi's (overkill times 3, but I had them).
1800 Mah 4.8v (may change to 6v)
Antenna run inside wing.
Weight: 4.6 pounds.

It's a complete U bend with the short side (end of rod) cut off at about a 1/4 inch. It's a great and easy fullproof way to do a 2-/56 pushrod that is easier than a Z bend and has no play. Just make the bend as small as you can. I have the 3 piece Higby bending set. But the end of needlenose pliers works great. Just make it about a 1/4"- bend.

Hi,

I spoke to Chris this morning and suppose to receive mine by the end of the week. My set up going to be very similar to SPLAIS’S setup. Here is my question; Is it make a sense to set up the tank on the CG ( YS 63) ???

One of the guys at the Cookeville Pro Bro (Mike B) had his tank on the CG of his EF Edge. He used silicone glue to attach it to the wing and fuse. He said he could pick the plane up by the tank without pulling it off.

Does it make sense to set up the tank on the CG? My flying is so crappy right now I doubt I would notice if my tank was tied to the tailwheel.

Have the ST51 with the stock muffler on my Hard Bet (around 4 1/2 lbs), plane accelerates nice out of a tail slide. Best prop I've found is the MA 12x4 (4s).
