Lets see if I can post a pic here. Its my Morfis Me 262 ( painted and glassed, so its a bit heavy at 2.75 lbs or so) with 2 Norvel .074s spinning 6.3x 4 apc props. Tracks like a pattern plane. Never had an engine out yet though. I fear it would be kinda deadly.

i'm in Central Kentucky. I'm currently in the making of another one with retracts. I belive I'll skip the glassing and painting and try just covering and spraying a light coat of highlight color on. I think I can make it as light or lighter with the retracts. I've got a couple paved runway clubs within an hour of me and drool thinking about not having to bounce the poor thing around in the grass. I had a friend (Rick Haslem, makes the Wiz, and some Pizza Box stuff) beg me to come to the last little rock thing with it, but I unfortunatlely had plans that weekend. I really do want to get to a SMALL meet, not for my flying, but to see all the cool stuff I hear about on SmallNet.

Its a Scratch, I made a built-up wing inside some foam off-cuts used as a jig. Planked fuse. Nelson Hobby water based poly-u paints. Now I have to shave a half pound off it and then put it right back on with retracts. I have a source for abs nacelles., perhaps I'll use a single lite ply extended rib for engine, fuel tank and throttle servo mount, and cover it with the abs nacelle.

KY Flyer,

I have a couple of questions :

What is the wingspan an how did you determine dimensions. (I noticed that you said it was scratch built and assumed (correctly ?) that you got plans somewhere.

Is it a 3 channlel or a 4 channel ? I could not see if the fin and rudder were hinged and was wondering if this is a "hand toss" plane or just how you managed take off.

How do you control each of the Norvel .074 throttles ? A yoke of some sort ?

Have you thought of making the fuselage with EPP foam (or the like) and toughening up that ?

Retracts ? Do they make them that small ?

I live in west central Illinois (and am fairly well "out in the country" . I was contemplating a twin when I was walking the dog last evening and even thinking about retracts for something of this size that I could fashion myself. I hope that you post a flight report

Hi Bill, they are 1/12 Gus Morfis plans. It's a Three Channel (no Rudder) and it is a hand launch plane. It needs a really good straight launch too, I almost lost it when a buddy launcher let it out of his hand sideways.....with the .074s it needs a second to gain flyin speed. The throttles each have a sub micro servo, and are easily mixed with most any
computer radio on separate channels, or with a y connector and similar linkages. The Plane flies straight an solid like its bigger than it looks, but ive never tested it with an engine out, eeek.. I've always landed it quite hot, and really havent tested stall characteristics much. Robart makes mechanical retracts for 1/2a or 1/12 scale models (tri-gear and conventional), but at this planes weight (doggone paint and glass cloth) I dont think i'd really have the power to do much. I intend to, however, build a lighter version of this plane , and try to install retracts and end up with a weight thats no heavier than this gearless one. You certainly could make this with EPP, if you used a keel, and some doubler at the wing saddle, but I doubt it would be any lighter than old fashioned planked balsa. Might be easier though! I belive the wing span is something like 41 inches.

Hi KY Flyer !

Hey - thanks for the plan info ! I will be checking that out. I have been flying EPP foam and coroplast planes with great success for about 2 years now and it has been very rewarding. I started flying Norvel .074's last year (I also have their .049, .061, and .25 engines...Some with throttles, some not...)

Again - thanks !!! Your neighbor to the north - Bill

Try using that new tissue covering then paint it.

That stuff is really light
